I sometimes sit and wonder who the 'people' are that watch them-- like, they make money, a lot of money. who are these raving nostalgia furries who demanded an alvin and the chipmunks reboot? why now? what does anybody have to gain from this?

Uh, I guess I just don't like chipmunks.
Can I instead name reasons for why I like the 2015 television series?

There's also the fact that the jokes are pretty poor and the music doesn't feel like something I'd really hear from Chipmunks.

Brand recognition. Higher-ups don't want to commit to new IPs, so they try to reinvent things people are vaguely aware of in the hopes that they'll be curious enough to watch it/ bring their kids.
That's just one of probably dozens of explanations, though.
