Nah, it's cute. I don't think it's great, but it has a charm to it. Silk was a nightmare OC Donut Steel mary sue under Slott, the actual kind where the story has to cater to her, not the "because I don't like the character kind."

I don't know her full history, but from what I understand, she started out as a cat burglar who gave up crime initially because she had the hots for Spidey, then because his heroism rubbed off on her. After One More Day, she went back to being a burglar, for some reason, but still worked with the heroes. Then Superior Spider-Man happened, where Doctor Octopus took over Spidey's body. He caught her stealing something, beat her up and handed her over to the authorities. All of her possessions were auctioned off and she became obsessed with revenge. When Spidey finally got control of his body back, he tried to prove it was Ock who betrayed her, but for some reason, she didn't care anymore and just wanted to be the next top crime lord in New York. I know next to nothing about DC, but I hear Catwoman became a crime lord shortly before Black Cat did the same.

Both are fanfiction tier character. For Spidey, the one is the girl he loved turned spiderman, the other is a girl she got bit with the same spider then locked in a bunker so we would never hear about her. Both suck if you think about them and lack any imagination.
The ongoing though showed the true colors of the characters. One had sub-par designs, the personality of the lead character is awful and the potential of that character is wasted. The other manages to actually get better, her character develops through time and the designs compliment the tone of the book.
