Why are Martians always portrayed stronger than humans despite coming from a planet with weaker gravity than Earth. Infact, are their any /co/ related aliens that don't surpass human strength?

Martians in any given adaptation of John Carter?
>>
>>77711985
You may as well extend your complaint to pretty much all aliens.
>>
>>77711985
John Carter was significantly stronger that the martians he encountered.
Read a book.

At the time most of those were created the idea "what would it be like on mars" was like how we'd think "what would like be like in dimension X".

> are their any /co/ related aliens that don't surpass human strength?

Yes. The first one in fact. War of the Worlds portrayed martians as frail and physically weak outside of their armored walkers.

Ah, but Martian bodies are designed to work in an atmosphere with significantly less oxygen. While the gravity is stronger, the oxygen levels compensate enough that their bodies operate more efficiently.

Toriyama had some weak ones before Dragonball. I think even in Dragonball there are weak ones among innocent alien victims

Oxygen is toxic. We only tolerate it because we evolved to use it. But even on us oxygen causes damage as it oxidize molecules that are not meant to be oxidized.

So is Carbon dioxide, now imagine a race who tolerate it because they were evovled to use it.

>>77715007
Carbon dioxide is pretty stable. Our atmosphere was full of CO2 early on. When so e lifeforms managed to produce energy at the cost of farthing toxic gas they flooded the atmosphere with that gas killing many of the other lifeforms only them life evolved to use O2.

You can inject carbon dioxide in a person abdominal cavity without much issues but if you inject pure oxygen that person is going to suffer a lot.

if I was to make a story about space, humans wouldn't be the basic model weaklings we are always portrayed as.

what if perhaps compared to other alien races, we were the powerful giants, like we are the wookies of the galaxy

what if 3 and a half feet tall was the galactic average? and space people only weighed 50 earth pounds?

I am going to make a space opera, and the main character isn't even going to be humanoid. its going to be a hivemind of asexual worms living as a collective super organism in a 3 foot tall pile

isn't Earth a heavy world? If our gravity was any higher, leaving earth via our current methods would be basically impossible due to the weight of fuel used for lift of being too much to over come.
>>
>>77716217
without researching and going off hand, I am going to say yes because of how retardedly dense our planet is. it has a core about 50% larger than a typical planet of the same size because of the collision with planet X way back when. We picked up part of its core and made it ours.

so I would anticipate us to be considerably stronger under the normal gravity of an earth-like planet
>>
>>77716217
Pretty much. I had a screencap of the post explaining it, but lost it.
>>
>>77716317
didn't that collision give us that fuckhuge iron core?
I'm pretty sure that planets like ours just have to be dense, since that'd mean that they have enough metal to form a magnetosphere to shield from the solar wind

Also humans. We even drink supersaturated CO2 solutions just because we think it feels good when pure CO2 pops in our mouth. We call it sodas.

Aside from this yeast lives and breeds on supersaturated CO2 solutions with no oxygen without any problems.

the person calls it a sewer, but its a reservoir system supplying water to homes in a gated community.
don't trust the word of a guy that calls what is clearly a colony of worms an "unknown life form"

sewers aren't an ideal place for most organisms. Those worms need a clean flowing supply of fresh water. How they ended up in there is anybodies guess.

The martian in the original War of the Worlds were significantly weaker than humans, they just had badass technology to compensate.

The image is what I remember them looking like from the book, though it's been awhile sicne I've read it and so I might be wrong.

It bugs me more how pretty much every alien in fiction has a much longer lifespan than humans.

it bugs me that aliens are always the same size as us, for all we know there are aliens out there that are giants compared to us because of the gravity on their planet.

why can't sjws come up with their own words for things?

Because they're aliens. Aliens are always stronger, smarter, more durable, etc.

Asexually.
>>
>>77717648
So they are nothing but clones? That doesn't seem sustainable.
>>
>>77717688
That depends on the exact reproduction method.
If they are not simply just splitting in two mutations will happen.
>>
>>77715979

Provided that they didn't focus on certain technologies while ignoring others like in The Road Not Taken.

>>
>>77711985
i find it funny how some people say this
>>Why are Martians always portrayed stronger than humans despite coming from a planet with weaker gravity than Earth?
like the gravity of a planet is directly involved with the general strength of a creature.
it's not, not really anyways.
lets just go on an assumption that what ever life we may encounter in the future also is governed by natural selection.
if the natural selection of a species tended to favor strength over this creatures other attributes its very possible this creature can become stronger than humans. this has no governance over gravity.
even if natural selection wasn't involved, why would they not give themselves extra strength

>>77722358

it is true you don't need as much strength to live on a lower gravity world, but that in itself isn't grounds for saying you must be weak for living on a low gravity world

>>77717688

Close, doesn't have the giant eyes though. This is an actual sketch by Wells of what the Martians look like, for horrific world-conquering monsters they are goofy looking fuckers.
>>
>>77727311
For context, Wells' depiction of the Martians was based on his theory (Wells had degrees in physics and biology, by the way) that beings in a technological civilisation would eventually use machines for all physical tasks and would thereafter evolve into giant brains with a vestigial body providing life support. The Martians were envisioned as a cephalopod species in this evolutionary phase, and Wells had earlier wrote a non-fiction book called 'The Man of the Year One-Million' where he speculated on what humans would be like in this phase.

scrawny off-white nerds. Occasionally you run into a piece of media where they have super strength for some fucking reason, but that's rare. usually they just telekinetically scramble your brain. Doubt they could take a punch though.

That and apparently Disney was afraid of the "Of Mars" thing because Mars Needs Moms had been a colossal failure.
>>
>>77728663
It's more a satellite-to-host ratio.
Our Moon is ridiculously huge compared to our planet when looking at other planets. The only thing that was close was Pluto and Charon. At one point, it was even postulated they were binary planets orbiting each other.
But of course, far, far too far from the Sun to worry about having any life.
>>
>>77729665
Apparently it makes more sense to classify Earth~Moon relation as a binary planet system than as a planet-Moon system.

In most cases I couldn't tell you, but aren't most Martians in the DC universe genetically enhanced? Unless I'm mistaken, their only natural abilities are telepathy and maybe shapeshifting.
