I was talking with some friends last night and I think I’ve figured out Getaway’s game.
I think it comes back to Megatron.
Getaway’s just outfitted Tailgate with mnemosurgery needles. Friend pointed out that as we saw from Chromedome and Overlord, those take a lot of practice to learn how to use with any degree of skill. But if someone’s got a phobia, you don’t need to be a mnemosurgeon. You just need to look like one.
Picture this.
Megatron sees Tailgate’s new look - particularly if it’s somewhere small and isolated, like his room. Freaks out. Attacks Tailgate - and we saw in Elegant Chaos that Megatron’s still not above getting physical when he’s upset, re: Perceptor. Suddenly Megatron is attacking people, giving the crew a justification to mutiny and toss Megatron into the brig, if they can, or kill him if he resists.
I think Getaway is on the “let’s get Megatron” side and Tailgate is his bait. This isn’t about romance or love or sex or anything like that to Getaway. He needs someone to play this role, and Tailgate is the most easily maneuvered (hey, Tailgate already doesn’t like Megatron) and appeals to his desires to be liked and not forgotten are the most secure way to do that.
In the first issue Whirl and Megatron get in a fight. Megatron refuses to make a big deal of the fight or be goaded into breaking the conditions of his parole by Whirl’s graffiti or even attack. Whirl calls someone for advice on what to do next.

I think it's all going to be about blackrock's OS.
It's now converting stuff into cybertronian, and it's going to start converting all earth tech to cybertronian tech, so Optimus will step in and say that Earth has to be part of the colonies because their tech is now inseperable from cybertronian, and they need various cybertronian resources to keep it going.
They'll introduce the "masters" as a way of guaranteeing to the public that the Cybertronians won't go against Earth's best interest. Humans like Marissa, Blackrock, and Spike will all join up.
The only bots allowed on Earth will be those with masters. That'll also be WHY they're called masters.

It was the Decepticons arriving and attacking a city, with the nebulans basically using the headmaster tech in order to fight them off, with the autobot's bodies.
Very different than the idea that Cybertron is basically taking over earth and only giving up their heads to placate the local populace.
