So just started watching Steven Universe, and I gotta say, aside from the musical bits at times... this show is actually a really good watch. Will it get longer story arcs? I'd love to see things carry over from episode to episode.... Also is there an episode that explains how Steven met the gems? From what I've seen, it doesn't really explain where they came from, but I'm only about 10 episodes in, give or take.

It's pretty episodic until around 25-26, which ties several plot pieces together and generally moves the plot in a certain direction. It's gets a little "dramatic" at times past that point, which caused some people to miss the more casual, silly episodes earlier. Overall I think people enjoy the show much more once you get to the midseason finale.

I would have to say the musical bits are quite entertaining. The show explores some themes that I never expected it to explore. It's music and character design is commendable.
What a lot of people don't understand is that SU is not a guilty pleasure. You'll find out very quickly why you are watching the show. Garnet and Steven 's bonding moments are something that will legitimately stick with me for a while, not because it's 'muh cute' but because before then, Garnet came off as strictly stoic and almost sociopathic.
And that's just one example of many.

What I don't get about the Malachite fusion is the show makes it fairly clear that gems only stay fused if they agree to it in some form, and any dissonance between the fused gems breaks the fusion. Whilst we do see Malachite beginning to unfuse as she's dragged into the ocean, later depictions of her show her as both fused and unfused...what's that about?
