This would happen more often if directors and writers had some real balls and actually put their own funding into the project. You know why Stars Wars The Clone Wars had someone fucking decapitate four people on screen, not robots but real people? Why it looked so damn good for a TV CGI production?
Because for all his faults, George Lucas put his motherfucking money where his mouth was and said "I'll put my money into this, you just show it." And the executives just backed the fuck off when he said he wanted to show someone get stabbed through the heart on screen in full view, because MONEY.

Actually, most times producers only procure funding from investors, they don't put their own funding in the project.
They shop scripts or pitches around to studios who put the funds in the thing to get it going, they don't do it themselves most times. There are exceptions, of course, but by far the norm is to get funds from several other outside sources.

Presumably this is more a problem with those gems who are not made for any creative thinking, there are probably castes that are like a more science oriented Peridot to develop new technologies. I'd imagine that they would have to be reasonably far up the totem pole so their input can be considered legitimate. Probably the higher up in the caste system you go the more used to creative thinking a gem would be.
