Shipping is all about unexplored possibilities. Suppose Emma hadn't taken advantage of Scott for that affair? Suppose she and Jean manage to become friends after she turns and starts working for Xavier (she is friends with Teen Jean now)? Suppose Cyclops manages to underwhelm and fail as a leader and as a man so badly that neither of them want him anymore? Suppose they gradually grow emotionally dependent?
