Wow. Just wow. So, how is Allison going to avoid getting pulped in the next half second?
>>
>>77604133
Cio is probably going to come to her rescue. Anyway, devils confirmed for no chill at all.
>>
He's right, you know. It's no kind of life.
>>
So what price does he pay for screwing the deal? Will he be demoted now or something?
>>
>>77604318
I assume he's about to get jumped by all the other demons before he reaches her.
>>
>>77604133
>>77604318
My guess is that, since his mask shattered, he loses his body and returns to the formless darkness.
Maybe it'll happen right before he snaps down on Allison's face. He's already lost a lot of shape in the half-second since he broke the pact.
>>
>>77604318
He's stepped outside of the mask and ranking system entirely.

I mean, I don't think Vladok is unsympathetic here. He comes off a little petty, but if you can imagine:
>work centuries or millennia for mortals to gain new masks
>this is all your entire species exists for
>get to the summit of existence
>realise you're still entirely at the whim/behest of awful mortals
Being a devil is suffering IMO.
>>
I don't understand why he didn't just help Allison go to the palace. It doesn't really seem like a big deal. Unless he's just /that/ pissed that he doesn't get the key, that he's throwing everything away.
>>

>>77604184

>>
>>77604133

First of six billion down.
>>
>>77604502
He might not have the power to go there without the key.
>>
>>77604502
That key is the key to the entire multiverse.

He doesn't know that, but he still knows that it's a gate key to an entire universe.
It's something I could see most of the demons risking everything to get their hands on if they know what it is.
>>
>>77603945
How do you people manage to read this comic without a foaming at the mouth seizure? It's like straight up heretical.
>>
>>77604502
He never planned on taking her there, he just wanted the key. It IS a big deal, though, given that Mottom is one of the seven most powerful people in the multiverse.

Presumably, his pride got the better of him.

>>77604507
10 bucks on Allison starting to live up to her name with Vladok and then scaring the fuck out of all the other demons. I don't know how, but I'm betting on either that or somebody else helping her.
>>
>>77604645
>He doesn't know that
He does actually, I think.
>>
>>77604645
He knows it's the Key of Kings, he says it's name on the prior page.
>>
>>77604669
He knows it's a key, but he doesn't know it's the master key that can open every gate.

I don't think anyone knows that aside from Zoss, the thorn angels and who they work for, and White Chain who was told this by Juggernaut Star Scours the Universe.
>>
>>77604507
She doesn't know jack shit about fighting though.
>>
>>77604745
He says "that key of kings".
Key of kings is just another name for a Magus Gate, and there's 777,777 of those + 1.

He doesn't know it's the one key to open them all, just that it's a key.
>>
>>77603945

Damn, Vladok is a little bitch.

>>
>77608033
I'm pretty it's Alice's name. Zoss calls her that, and Jadis was trying to say something else when her interpreter interrupted her. She said "He is the successors ssssss", and I think she was trying to say "successor's boyfriend/consort"
>>
>>77608033
>Kill Six Billion Demons is the prophetic name of her boyfriend though
It's her name, and what better way to live up to your name by doing what it says.
>>
>>77608138
Does anyone know why people keep calling her Alice? What's up with that?
>>
>>77608232
Blame Zoss.
>>
>>77608033
they think that Allison's boyfriend is the successor because their prophet is entombed in a rock and can only whisper phrases whilst hissing, which makes accurate interpretation impossible.

additionally, because the thorn knights abducted him at the moment they did, they may well have prevented him from becoming the successor he was intended to be, and caused Allison to inherit the super-key instead by their interruption of the event.

either way, he's very much not the guy, but the assorted big bads think that he is and will act accordingly.
>>
>>77608232
People have speculated about how "Allison" sounds like "Al-Yis-Un." Maybe they're calling her "Al-Yis" because she hasn't gained her Un aspect.
Then again I'm talking out of my ass here.
>>
>>77608352
Or because of the key that has all of Yis-Un's names in her forhead, she has/is All Yis-Un
>>
>>77608317
What if her boyfriend's prophetic name is Six Billion Demons?
>>
>>77609348
Why Alice though? I can't believe it's just a misunderstanding.
>>
>>77609902
Probably one of those classic by hearing the prophecy and trying to change it, they ensured its completion sort of deals.

Then once that has kicked in they accept the "signs" that portend that she is the one.
>>

>>77609348
They speculated that (specifically I speculated that, here) but Abaddon confirmed that's not why it is.

>Birth Six Million Demons

Hello new CioxAllison slashfic.
>>
he broke his mask, he fucked up big time, no?
>>
>>77610556
essentially personality suicide. masking and naming a demon is implied/outright stated to be what gives them consciousness and separate being from the formless chaotic black flame, though it's not clear if they're substantial before being masked. he's not sticking around long in either case, but he might not even have time to attack Alice-UN before fading back into the fabric of the void.
>>
>>77610606
he reached ebony level while being this impatient, I feel like the mortals of this worlds are pretty... kid friendly? That's some Diablo3 tier demon lord right there.
>>
>>77610606
Since this is the Void, I think he'll stick around. I mean, he even talked about taking out everyone else along with Allison. And if being an Ebon changes anything, it would only make his unrestrained fire even more dangerous.
>>
>>77610629
>"If I have to disappear, I'll take all you fools with me!"

From his words is more probable that he was already old and he was going to die soon or later. He tried to take the Magus Gate as a last chance to get back his powers. It didn't work, so now it's in "Better to burn out than to fade away" mode.
>>
>>77610629
He wasn't necessarily always this impatient. He sees Allison's key as a means to return to his former glory. Remember that mask color determines power and rank within the devilish hierarchy, not power on absolute terms.
>>
>>77610656
No, I don't think he was going to die. I think it was more that he was going to revert to a lower color? Only humans actually age to death. A devil dies when they return to being a formless fire.
>>
>>77610629
Vladok in his youth has won against heroes and kings, and now he's old and tired. He hasn't the power he had, and it strikes me as the kind of devil that would prefer to die as an Ebon instead of going back a rank and live.

So he see an opportunity and he act. But he's overconfindent. After all he is an Ebon, "no man has ever beat him before". While Allison is dumb girl that didn't even know about devil marks and was talking with a blue devil, the second lowest of the ranks. He wouldn't even need to cheat to beat them!

Shit out of luck, Cio is not a simple blue devil. She's a mistress of the Art, and at the same time Allison is extremely good at the task chosen. So while Allison is not winning, she is not losing either.

She's clearly cheating, but cheating is only against the rules if you are caught. And from what we have seen of devil culture they regard cheating as a perfectly fine way to win. But Vladok can't bear that. He lashes out, and that make all the other devils start to booing him.

"Who the fuck this guy believe he is?" They think. He has made a contract and the other part outskilled him. He should stop whining and admit defeat. He's not even singing anymore!

And this is the last straw. Either way, Vladok is fucked. He is humiliated by a dumb girl and a blue devil and has to serve them, and after that he's still gonna become older and weaker. He's lost any trace of respect by the other devils.

"Fuck it" He thinks. "If I have to disappear, I'll take all you fools with me!"

yeah. I am confused about this.

Isn't this backwards? Did the rules change?
blue imps are singing about GETTING more names, and rising up the ranks.
the red is saying his GOLD name lost power, due to lack of fame.

Round 4, they say, GUARD they black name.

I thought demons were bound and wrapped up in names, and trying to shed them. Doing so frees them, and breaks the rules man set on them. Like Djinn bound in a lamp.
>>
>>77617278
Abbadon came and explained it a couple of threads ago, maybe you can find it in the archive
>>
>>77617278
Blue imps want to get named because the more names you go through, the less there are left so you get up in ranks
The red lost power and retrograded like you said
And the thing about guarding the black name is that ebon is the best rank, so once you're here you don't want to have the same fate as that red and go down ranks
And know I realize I don't know what your problem is

From what Abbadon said:

>Devils trick people into naming them differently which allows them to get rid of other names and grow in power

>Devils reincarnate but only based on their masks. They don't really exist as individuals in their true form, they're just personalities impressed on one formless, chaotic mass.

>Devils without names are unbound devils. We'll see some in a bit. They are aforementioned chaotic mass. They are nasty.
>>
I think it works like this.

Jerry-Tom-Alex-Mark-Luke is a blue devil. He contacts a summoner. He tricks him into believing that is name is actually Jerry-Tom-Alex-Markluk. The summoner names him so, and this way the blue devil "sheds" his blue names (Mark-Luke) and having less names now he becomes a red devil.

Instead Alex-Max is a gilded devil. But he encounters a clever summoner.

"Hi-Alex-Max!" the summoner call him. the devil misheards him for "Hi!, Alex-Max" and answer. But he's been tricked. Having answered to Hi-Alex-Max now his name becomes that, and having gained a name he shrink to verdant.

This should be broadly the process as I have understood, obviously with better names and better details.
>>
>>77617711
Is Cio attempted to shed names or gain them when formally introducing herself to Allison?

She introduced herself as Cio Cioelle Estrella von Maximus the third.

And would "the third" mean this is her third incarnation or third time she's been a blue devil?
Or do demons have parents?
>>
>>77617818

Despite my example, I doubt that just being called by someone is a way to lose/gain name. It probably involve magic, a contract or something similar.

Also good question for the third. Vladok was also called "Grandfather of Duurthumel" (which is Oskar name) so there is probably some kind of relationship going on between devils.

>>77612823
All and none, the premise being that all religions are essentially correct and incomplete at the same time

I guess only in the judeo religion is it strictly said there is only one God and all others are false.

What is interesting is seeing the religious influences on the 7 God kings who remain, Zoss clearly has a tibetian monk motif, Solomon David is a judeo Christian reference, the witch has a very Japanese influence, jaggonoth sort of reminds me of a combination of Norse warrior and animal spirit bathed in fire.

>>
>>77618260

>>
>>77618260
First we don't know how the Magus Gate works. We have seen Allison planeshifting in moments of panic, so probably Vladok thought that just trying to kill her would have her running away in another world and he'll lose the thing.

Also even if he does that then he's in the middle of dozen of devils that now know that that thing is valuable enought for an Ebon Devil to kill someone in cold blood. And while he's Ebon he's also old and worn, I doubt he has the power to just kill everyone.
>>
>>77618163
No, it's lesser subgradients and the concept of the oversoul. KSBD takes a lot of inspiration from TES lore, so it's like how dragons are extensions of Akatosh, or how Tiber Septim and his friends are Talos who is Lorkhan (and Sheogorath) who was just Aka-Tusk who were all ultimately an extension of Anu/Padomay

Abaddon mentioned previously that devils have a true name, like what you might see in other fantasy and folklore, and that these true names are the things that mutate, growing and shrinking and changing. Cio's full name is not actually her true name, it's basically just what she likes to be called informally. The androsphynx gilded devil from earlier in the story, Oscar, and maybe Vladok are probably the same.

We know that advanced technologies exist in the multiverse, but that they are restricted in Throne. So it seems that the demiurges have gun-control laws in effect.
I guess you have to have a special permit to be a gun witch.

Think we'll ever see ray-guns or other 'Expedition to Barrier Peeks' stuff in K6BD?

From the SA forums: "Higher technology, especially weapons, is tightly controlled by the demiurges and coveted by the guilds. It’s not easy to come by a modern-level gunsmith in the city, so you’d have to get it through the King’s Road, which is a risky business. You’ll see a LOT more guns when we meet Jagganoth, he’s the one hoarding all the military technology."

Layla Brimstone seems to have mix of guns. Most appear to be flintlocks, but you can see cartridges under her coat and some of them are drawn with hammers that are centered as opposed to off-set as would be the case with flintlocks.

Interesting. One wonders how effective they could be if used in Throne.
>>
>>77637034
Probably not all that. I don't want to stop people who wank off over guns wanking off over guns, but the individual power level of people in Throne clearly exceeds what a gun can provide.
>>
>>77637136
Yeah, I'd say there's a reason the use of guns is a specialized discipline. The gun witches probably supplement it with the Art.

Also, how exactly do the demiurges enforce gun control so effectively? There's clearly a booming black market, and you'd think arms would be a major part of that.
>>
>>77637510
To be clear, the gun witches are using shitty flintlock, but there's much more powerful weapons available from our dimension, let alone what could come from 777,777 other dimensions.

>>77637136
I'd say they'd probably work about as well as the swords and other weapons considering how Throne seems to work when it comes to fighting. When you're in a setting where nameless background characters can decapitate people with a single swing of a sword I'd imagine KSBD gunslingers make Roland Deschain look like a scrub.

>>77637034
They control the gates. Plus I'd imagine they're also pretty hard on the usage end too. Unlike anything else it's pretty obvious when someone's using a gun. Could be that everyone has a gun they're too afraid to use.

Oh wow, that's such a bullshit list.
Most of the stuff on there you'll be begging for your time back after reading it, either because it's dead as fuck with no conclusion, or because the entire thing is HERE HAVE MY AGENDAS.
Seriously, even discounting all the shit that just doesn't update, you have:
Hark a Vagrant and Nimona are both the same 'progressive' author, with the same lazy artsytle that people love to yell tumblr at.
MSPA is fucking MSPA
Cucumber Quest is literally cancer; it's author indoctrinates other authors with their "you don't need to be able to write just draw reaction images and the cis scum will love you". Re: Paranatural.
Stand Still Stay Silent is literally nationalistic propaganda about the "ideal world" of the NEET author where everyone but the nords are dead and they get to happily retake the world in a fantasy adventure.
Ava's Demon is fucking dead, also bland and cliche as fuck once you look past the art and the TUMBLR IS BULLYING ME of the author.
O Human Star has if I remember correctly a tranny robot on the first few pages. That should clue you in to the themes.
Likewise last I checked Prague race was increasing it's diversity quota with a tranny werewolf, because there's no better way to make sure that topic dominates the entire fucking story.
Honorable mention to Johnny Wander and Vibe, who aren't bad but are bland as fuck (and the latter looks like it's painted with a strobe light)

and I probably can't come up with anything meaningful for "depression comics" because they're 'supposed to be bad' or so people will say. Same thing with IT HURTS, which /co/ loves to meme over for hours on end probably because it's how any comic your average anon would make would turn out (shit art shit humor PLOT TWEEEESTs, etc...)

Niiiiiiiice. I was hoping there'd be more to Jagganoth's Genius Bruiser status than "I can guess who sent those angels based on whose territory they came from." That's more common sense than "subverting the dumb brute stereotype".

>Not providing a list of good webcomics in response
I didn't read any of these except Prague Race and the shit you give it is unjustified. Is one minor character supposed to make the comic bad ?
>>
>>77640530
I don't think that is a devil. Remember that "humans" are actually a rather diverse group across the wheel.

Anyway, pale devils (they have white masks) are below blue devils. They are the lowest rank and seem to do menial work mostly. Until now, I believe we only saw them tending the demon bar.
>>
>>77637510
I don't think the seven demiurges care much about what doesn't threaten their rule. It's mostly the angels who are uptight with protocol.
>>
>>77643930
>minor character
I read the comic up until then too; a primary companion to the MC does not a minor character make.
not to mention the comic had been going downhill anyways, with tragic monologues that are TOTALLY OK BECAUSE WE'LL SARCASTICALLY COMMENT ON HOW CLICHE THEY ARE
The only thing supporting it was the art, once we got AGENDAS there was no reason to continue reading.

as for good comics, ie: ones that actuall belong on that list (again not mentioning dead/never updating ones)
Asaekkiga is generally decently humorous, probably in part because it's foreign humor that comes from unexpected places.
All the Rice Boy comics are well written and UNLIKE NEARLY EVERY WEBCOMIC EVER actually finish their stories and move on to other ones in the world.
Endtown is alright if you're a furfag.
Unsounded is a whole-life effort of an actually talented artist/writer, though even the author is telling people that they might want to drop it next chapter since her Forum RP husbando doughnut steel is getting introduced to the story.
KSBD deserves it's spot, even if it is padded with memes and carries the taint of MSPAF
Hemlock would be nice if it ever updated whoops i mentioned a dead comic
Poppy is for furfags, again.
Monster pulse is an indulgence of pokemon garbage mitigated by the fact that it's somewhat creative and not all cuddly feely.

Oh, that's right I forgot to mention Octopus Pie last post, which has caught the everpresent "everyone is gay now for no reason" virus, and thus should be in the same category as Handstabs comic.
>>
>>77643777
Well, the imagery of Paradise Lost is suggestive of a High Medieval sort of conflict, certainly. It would support the notion of certain parties being consummate masters of everything to do with such things. Hell, if you accept the idea of "Fallen Angels with cannon" they literally invented the business, and have certainly been doing nothing but improving it ever since, longer than human civilization or possibly even the human race has even existed.

They might have been a little lazy here and there, but it counts for something.

The only reason they really lost anyway was because of who they were fighting, and it can be assumed that the loyal angels probably had similar talents and equipment in some quarters too. The resulting quality of works by the very best artificers on either side would thus be infernally or divinely clever, respectively.

I think that's an unfair judgment of Stand Still Stay Silent, particularly considering her previous work with Redtail's Dream. She's writing what she knows, i.e. Nordic cultures and particularly their mythologies, and that's not inherently nationalistic or xenophobic. Her world is a delightful melange of fantasy, post-apocalypse, and Alien-esque horror; it's also beautiful and has surprisingly decent writing. As someone not Nordic myself, or even white, I think you're overreacting.

The biggest criticism of her comic is that she writes nords like euro explorers wrote Africans; from an utterly outside perspective that recognizes but disregards or warps all culture to how they want to see it.

And just go after some of her personal stuff if you want to see how really twisted she is. A major reason for the comic is her wanting a world where all foreigners are dead, because again: she's a nazi-level nationalist who thinks her country can do no wrong.

>Interesting. One wonders how effective they could be if used in Throne.

Well, one of the MAIN plots points in the Amber series was the discovery and use of magical gunpowder.

So there is plenty of precedent for such things.

That said, guns are a Big Deal. Back in WW1 they did research of splinter casualties, and determined that a moving object needs about 80 foot pounds of energy (108 joules) to have a 50 percent chance to incapacitate a victim.

A hot 9mm round can have a muzzle energy of well over 600 joules, and a 9mm is a popgun compared to even a light rifle round.

By contrast, a medium-fast baseball bat swing delivers on the order of 15-25 joules.

A sword used one-handed is very lethal, but the energy involved is not large.

Guns are a Big Deal. We're just so used to them, we don't see it any more. Any melee fight lasts on the order of multiple seconds, while gunfights are decided in milliseconds.

>>
>>77651014
Idunno. The point is pretty obvious once you read a little into the comic though; all foriegners are LITERALLY man-eating monsters that must be avoided and hidden from at all costs, and must be eradicated down to the last scrap of dust for the glory of the nordic world.
>>
>>77651151
Well, >>77649107 was referencing some kind of "personal stuff" that would go beyond interpretation of her fantasy story and straight into Mein Schneeneger Kampf territory.
>>
>>77651151
Actually, for all we know there are whole civilization pockets cut-off from each other. The Norse don't know what CDs or DVDs are. They probably don't understand satellite communications, either. So, there are probably chinks, nigs, beaners, kikes and kebabs still kicking and rebuilding their civilizations. The author just chose to write about the one she was most interested in.

I like to imagine that around the Med there are very active trade ports and monotheistic religions are still predominant.
>>
>>77651014
Total overstatement.

There's never really been any evidence that she's a hyper-nationalist. It's just Americans getting assblasted by the idea that Ammurriicaahh isn't the lone surviving nation (that said, she hasn't even confirmed that everyone's dead, just that the Norse are totally cut off). There are a million and one settings where some other nation is the last known holdout of humanity, and this one is no more or less offensive than any of them.

In fact, it seems pretty laughable that the author would be a turbonord nationalist. IIRC she's a shut-in that is pretty much obsessed with mythology and language, and uses them to escape from other people in her country.

>>
>>77651014

>>
>>77652929
>>77652992
I really enjoyed how down-to-earth the introduction was, but I can understand how others might not.
>>
>>77651828
Yeah, it's entirely possible that there are dozens of other major pockets of human civilization that held on throughout the world. Iceland managed to do so well because they were the third nation to close their borders. But even with the other Nordic nations being later on, small groups managed to hold on in more isolated areas. The only thing we can reasonably guess is that most of the coastal areas in the North and Baltic sea are depopulated and no other pockets of surviving humans have made themselves known in these areas other than the Nords. But there are plenty of places across Europe, let alone the rest of the world that could have closed themselves off even better than Sweden or Denmark.

And the idea that the Nords are going to conquer everyone is laughable when we already know the Danes tried to retake some of their old land and only had a disastrous failure. What we're seeing in the comic is a small group people who really don't seem that prepared being sent out on an under-funded expedition which nobody high up really cares about.
