>Reading Kamandi
>Each issue is divided into four chapters
... Why? Aren't issues kind of like chapters themselves?
old comics used to do it like that
they weren't written to be part of a trade where each issue was 1 of 3 or 1 of 6 which is where the comparison of an issue being a chapter stems from

Well I get that but why does a 20-30 page magazine need chapters?

>what is structure?

Structure is exactly my problem with it. What's the reason for breaking up a 20 page story into 5 page chapters? Each part is so short it only takes a few seconds to read it.

One reason is because they had the ads in between.

Comics were meant for smaller kids, so maybe a kid would only read one chapter at a time due to the amount of words on the pages.

Do you complain when book chapters vary in length and amount?

Kirby liked drawing splash pages. Kirby worked very quickly and was usually drawing more than one comic a month.
Splash pages let him knock out more pages faster.
