Gerber's stuff was heavily surreal and weird. I think his creavitity was at the strongest during the 70's, but he really strikes hard in this mini.
Also if it helps reading the first story featuring the writer Brian helps somewhat to understand what's going on here.

I couldn't get over the art in this. He looks like an elephant man. And the little tree is like that rumor weed off of veggietales

What I got was man maid tree tulpa out of pent up frustration, man had history with man-thing, tulpa wanted to move into man-thing and leave man to die, but man kills himself before tree tulpa can get into man-thing
