I've been on the fence on watching it. I'm getting burned out on pastiche comedy shows. As much as I love Venture Bros, Archer, and Rick and Morty, I still haven't started Major Lazer or Moonbeam. It's the sperglord within, but comedy tends to be either hit or miss with me.
I want something animated that is mature but doesn't have to rely on being comedy, like Heavy Metal sort-of/kind-of was.
I do blame Zombie Simpsons and Family Guy for making the sitcom the most viable form of non youth-oriented cartoons.

Every episode there's an anomaly featured that's connected to the character conflict, which is interesting since you always have the next weird thing to look forward to. Not to mention from time to time they subvert the weirdness.
On a related note, Weirdmageddon's anomaly premise is interesting because the whole arc is dominated by Bill Cipher.
