This was how Sonja looked in her first appearance in Conan comics: chainmail shirt and leather hot pants courtesy of Barry Windsor-Smith. The chainmail bikini that became her iconic look came later at the pen of Esteban Maroto, and for obvious reasons proved popular enough to become her de facto look.
The Scott redesign isn't all that dissimilar from her original look.

This is my main complaint about the the redesign. She doesn't look like Vampirella. She looks like some 30-something who pretends she's still in college.
It will get to a point where someone will make a cheesecake comic with tits everywhere and everyone will be "OH FINALLY, TITS! THIS IS REVOLUTIONARY!"

I saw the stuff posted here. Not only is it bad, it breaks with the iconic nature of the characters. Like, really? Dynamite was slowly killing Vampirella and Sonja with the Collins/Simone stuff, and Warlord of Mars went south a long long time ago.

Both Vampi and Sonja got written into corners. Dynamite editors weren't paying attention so the characters were left with nowhere to go. The Vampire Red Sonja arc was a horrid arc. How you mess up red sonja as a vampire will be something scientists will study for years.

It's not very good, even for what it is, but I love all those old Warren magazines. Also, it's been stated in this thread but throughout the 90's the Vampirella books had some obscene talent working on them.
Dejah Thoris is the only one that kinda looks decent because it remains faithful to the original design, but misses the point of the whole John Carter universe and is pretty generic.
Vampirella and Red Sonja both just look entirely bland and forgettable character re-designs.
