I'm a fan of the art style, at first I didn't like the fact that people in it looked like muppets but the show grew on me aesthetically. I think it actually was Louise that won me over, mainly when she got the mega-nails.

Yeah as animated sitcoms go it's fine. at first it looked worse than average but now I think it's easily on par with the others. which is to say, it's not good, but it's fine for a comedy. Ideal for a comedy really. Maybe a little uglier faces but there's some good comedy in the sorta puppety, slumpy animation. Especially when the silverman twins are around getting downright baman piderman on each other.
But yeah i've learned not to judge western comedies by their art, look at home movies, dr katz, phineas and ferb..

I'd say that the art suits it well. Enough detail to almost never mix up characters, simplistic enough that the quality of the animation doesn't suffer for a weekly sitcom.

That's part of the problem I see with a lot of children characters in cartoons. They really aren't children at all.
When I was eight I didn't know my ass from my head. I worshiped power rangers like they were gods. I thought my mom was the smartest person ever.
Point is real life kids are pretty fucking dumb and weird.
This kind of makes them bad characters (at least very hard to write for) in most stories. It can be pretty hard for an adult to relate to a child character. It is especially hard for an adult to step in to the mind of a child.
Most writers tend to write children simply as weird or naive versions of adults, especially in shows targeted at adults. Louise, Lisa Simpson, Stewie, Phineas and Ferb etc... They all have the personalities and reasoning skills of adults.
Look at Bob's burgers. The characters are hideous. People aren't attracted to the design, it is all about that personality, and she has the personality of an adult. People don't want to fuck Louise, they want to fuck their idea of Louise.
