Hey /co/, my little brother was coming down for college break this past week, so I thought it'd be fun to get out the old Ronald McDonald VHS tapes and watch them together, along with my older brother. All 3 of us really enjoy the tapes for Nostaliga (and just sort of genuinely).

My older brother decided to jokingly look up how much a set of the 6 episodes goes for, and he could only find listings for "Complete 5 sets" (with emphasis on 5). He did some research, and apparently the 6th one is super rare.

The hell should we do with it? Is it honestly worth anything? I remember we bought it online because we saw the other 5. Apparently people online haven't even SEEN the physical VHS before, and we've watched it like 6 times.

General "Rarest thing you own" thread. Pictures are recommended, timestamps even better (I can timestamp a picture of the VHS if you all want)
>>
There was a thread about this just the other day. It is your duty to put a digital version of that online so everyone can see it.

And here is a picture of the back of it.
>>
There's a guy on this board who'll pay like a million dollars for that tape. He's obsessed with it.
>>
>>68114798
I find that hard to believe, but I did see someone on facebook offer $1000 for it like 10 years ago.

Trying to research the tape is really difficult, because it seems no one fucking owns it.
>>
>>68114783
It's on myspleen, they have open registration now too
>>
It was only offered online for a very short period of time. Its so rare that its considered to be sought-after Lost Media.

Rip that shit. Now.

>>
>>68114744
I remember seeing 2 as a kid, didn't even know they had 6. Pretty neat, I guess. I found them to be pretty funny, but I was like... 6 or 7 back then.
>>
>>68114841
No its not. Only the first 5 are. This is seriously something people have been trying to get a copy of for a very, very long time.

It was Sunday afternoon 4chan. They're always faggots.

I'm gonna go take a picture with a time stamp with the physical VHS, hold up.
>>

It's called an A/V to USB converter. It costs less than 10 bucks.

Yeah, I've seen a guy begging desperately to find any sort of recording of that shit.

The story behind this is that the McDonalds tapes flopped, so the last one was never released. McDonalds had already put it into production, so they made it available on their website in hopes of selling off a few copies. There was no promotion at all and few people cared (plus this was back when using the internet to buy things wasn't as common as it is now), so very, very few actually ended up being sold. Hell, for a long time people doubted that it actually existed.

This really is something special, anon.
>>
>>68115250
Thanks for the info, I didn't even know they flopped. I guess that makes sense though, I LITERALLY could not find someone who had seen the cartoons until I discovered 4chan in like 2005 or 2006, and even then it was just a few people.

Its sort of exciting, feels like I own something that might actually be sort of rare is really sweet.
>>
>>68115192
>Really? I suppose some place like Good Will might have one.
Probably not. It's a fairly modern thing. Just go online and find one. They're seriously only like 8 bucks.

His name is Dycaite, and you need to tell him about this ASAP, he might even tell you how to rip it proper and shit, he's a total bro.

Also, that guy who was asking for this every single day for like two weeks is going to shit himself when he sees this.

>>
>>68116665
I have no idea, honestly. I'm pretty sure he had an e-mail posted to the wiki, but after he wanted to move the site to it's own hosting network, Wikia booted him, stole the site, and made the Dycaite that posts on there a robot.

Oddly specificly supervillain, if you ask me, but whatever.

ANYONE have his e-mail?

Maybe some sort of Lost E-mail Wiki?

Also, my offer for the tape is a Big Mac Meal and a box of Flutie Flakes
>>
>>68115136
I've looked online before and can only find them for around 30.
>>
>>68118310
Well, I'd certainly try and rip the VHS before I sell it, but if it actually went for any sort of real money I think it'd involve lawyers, and I'd have to see if I could upload it. However, I'll do my best to make sure that I can do it for you all to see.

>>68118282
Anon pls, my heart.
>>
>>68118275
my offer of $15,000 still stands on the condition you do not upload the tape since it would lessen its value
>>
>>68118352
Like I said, if the VHS ever actually sold for any amount of real money, I'm sure we'd both have lawyers to make sure everythings cool.

If the person who paid me over 10 grand was like "Yeah, you can't upload it" its not like I can really get around that. I'm pretty fucking poor.

But this is all fantasy.
>>
>>68118275
Of course you get to keep the submarine, I don't want it, it clashes with the platinum one.
>>
>>68118450
>lawyering up for 15 grand
how poor are you anon? 15 thousand cold hard cash no questions asked
and no im not joking since i know a client who would pay good money for it
>>
>>68118481
Excellent, a solid gold submarine will work wonders.

>>68118517
How poor am I? Essentially living in the ghetto poor.

But who would pay that much money for it?
>>
>>68114744
Would you consider this to be the greatest McDonald movie of them all?
>>
There is no need for lawyers, that's just a waste of money. Agree to meet with the guy in a public area and just swap money for tape.
>>
>>68118545
>But who would pay that much money for it?
I know people who pay top dollar for shit like this he even bought a gold lego minifig for $3k
>>
>>68118598
Well, its certainly the rarest.

>>68118614
The lawyer would be one of my good friends who wouldn't charge me, but yeah. If its just cash, probably don't need him (and not like I'd tell teh gubament)

I'm interested in how many of these stupid Ronald McDonald tapes sold. Probably not very many. As I said earlier in the thread, I don't even know anyone IRL who has seen any of the VHS tapes before, or know they exist.

>>
>>68118746
I guess that not many have these tapes but the reason why its valuable is that even in the age of the internet its one of those things that you still cant find, the moment you upload it, it loses 90% of its value
>>
>>68118814
I do see some truth to that, yeah. But the physical VHS itself would still be rare.
>>
I remember seeing threads about this like a year ago. Its funny to see it finally surface right here on /co/
>>
>>68118814
Because the advent of ROMs has made physical copies of rare games absolutely worthless, right guy?

Now if you excuse me, I'm gonna go buy a copy of Earthbound for ten times it's original worth.
>>
>>68118645
>>68118696
Yup, only 5k made.
http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Mr._Gold

It leveled off at around $1.4k for a while, and now sits at the $700-$1,200 range.

>>68118746
Well, it's rare enough that I can't find an archived eBay listing.
>>
>>68118895

You can get a cheap Hong Kong one on Amazon for a third of that. It probably won't last very long, but it'll do the job.

To be fair, I've seen plenty of people on here or in old forums post about how they had an old copy but sold it/lost it/it's rotting away in their parents' basement etc. Obviously some of them were just bullshitting, but now that it's apparent VHS copies actually do exist it's not that unreasonable that at least some of them could've been telling the truth.

>>68119026
>gold plated lego
>on a common set
>>

>>68119014
Realistically, the only people who would buy this video are people who collect McDonald's merchandise, and they won't care if its online or not, because they'll be the only one with a VHS.

Still though, if OP was smart he would sell it before he uploads it. Obviously he needs to rip it first, then sell it, then upload it for maximum profit.
>>
>>68119037
True, but if so few sold the chances of someone having one are extremely slim. I didn't mean OP is the only one to own it, I meant OP is the only one to actually provide legitimate proof.
>>

don't just sell it to some asshole who'll wreck the tape or lock it up forever or whatever without ripping it first

Rip it. Hold onto the Rip. List on eBay and advertise fucking everywhere for it online amongst McDonald's collectors. Sell and wait until it's in collector's hands. Upload it.

Is it a dick move? Definitely. Does it score you shit loads of money and gives something amazing to hundreds, maybe thousands of people who have been searching for this over the past 11 years? Yes.
>>
>>68119238
The question is for how much though.

>>68119284

If you list it on eBay, you have a few options. One is to list it for an obscenely high Buy It Now price and leave a Best Offer option - this gives you the option to either get the Buy It Now (and get paid as soon as that person buys it) or accept lower offers that are probably more reasonable. Or you could list it as an auction, putting the minimum price at whatever lowest amount you're willing to take - downside is it could very well sell for only the minimum price, upside is it could go far higher than whatever obscene Buy It Now price you might put it at.
>>

Here is my suggestion OP,

You will still be able to fetch significant amounts of money for the physical copy of the tape even if you upload it.

How about in exchange for uploading it, we'll purchase the converter cord for you to be able to upload it.

I think that's a pretty fair tradeoff and serves the greater good

http://www.amazon.com/ION-Video-Analog-Digital-Converter/dp/B002MT7JFQ/ref=zg_bs_280341_14
>>
If you record yourself shoving the VHS up your ass and then destroying it (the tape) in any manner of your choosing, I will give you 1,000,000 USD contingent on your uploading the resulting video online for the world to see.

I hope we can discuss this further.

Start a kickstarter with a goal of however much the tape goes for. Never explicitly say that the kickstarter is for releasing the intellectual property of McDonald's, but rather, for starting your own stream site.

Once you reach your kickstarter goal, stream the video on repeat on the stream site for a few weeks.

Make tons of money from small ads on the site as everybody watches it and shows it to all of their friends.

The real reason he "can't" is because he won't. He's been fucking with you throughout this entire thread and making these posts about buying it just to upset people who want it ripped. Simple as that. If you want to sell it, look outside 4chan, and rip it anyway. Upload the rips after its sold if for whatever random reason the buyer demands that it remain unripped. He can't prove you did it, so even if there was a contract you'd be completely safe.

I don't know about it; it'd still hold value to somebody who wants a complete collection.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that this is one of only a handful of existing tapes; there weren't that many issued to begin with and some of those that were are probably no longer watchable if they haven't been disposed of altogether.

Plus ripping it insures that it just doesn't go into somebody's collection to disappear or be destroyed. It's not like that doesn't happen; there's apparently an existing copy of London After Midnight that is likely deteriorating away in some private collector's vault.
