Not liking the art style, but Dredd is Dredd no matter what.
>>
I read this run. As a 2000ad Judge Dredd reader I thought it was an entertaining diversion with a lot of fish-out-of-water humour, but it felt an issue too long.

I also thought the people looked too cartoony, but I can see how this is done by design to emphasise MC2's phony, smiley-faced vibe, where officially issued guns have teddybears on them. The buildings, structures and vehicles are tremendously detailed and interesting to look at, though.

I'd still recommend it to Dredd fans looking for something different - Dredd is still Dredd-like, but the setting is a new twist. It's by far the most interesting IDW Dredd comic I've read so far.

My question is why have we had two JD movies by Americans but none by Brits?

Why have the people making DrWho not done this?

Storytime is always appreciated, OP.

It's actually from earlier this year. Five-issue mini. As for Dredd, it's actually been in color for a nice couple of decades now, and if you're looking for cool modern artstyles, Kev Walker, Henry Flint and Carl Critchlow have all done splendid work on the strip.

You're welcome! If you're looking for something more modern and cool, try the new Anderson mini by Matt Smith and the aforementioned Critchlow. And if you feel like jumping into Dredd proper, try the stories "The Pit", "America" and "Total War". They're all pretty modern and all kinds of awesome, especially America.
>>
>>65250785
eyyy u the man! I've been looking stuff up and yea America seems to be a good one, and the Anderson one doesn't look too bad! Man, I'm really glad i watched Dredd 3D or i wouldn't have even been interested in this guy, but Dredd's a real beast! Just read Year One a few days ago, its niceeeee

The Sensitive Klegg arc happened in issues 1888-1889 of 2000AD. For more background, read "The Day The Law Died", which introduced the Klegg, and "Trifecta", which introduced Sensitive Klegg. That said, Trifecta can be a bit weird if you read it outta the blue, and I'd strongly recommend reading at least "Day of Chaos" before it.

I'm not displeased that the dredd 3D movie has bought judge dredd into the mainstream a bit more, but it was lacking some things that I liked from the comics (I assume for the sake of accessibility).

But then I like the stallone dredd in all its cheesey glory. Still the only movie ever to have an ABC warrior in.

The first bit of the movie up until Dredd removes his helmet is really good, Schneider and silly standing around shouting aside. Most of it is design work, although I do feel like the flying cars and bikes deprived Mega-City of its "thousands of highways going nowhere" look, which is very pivotal to the design.
The problems with Sly's Dredd start, for me, once the plot kicks in. Slowly, surely, the movie starts lodging itself up its own ass, becomes too serious for its own good, and by the end is completely unrecognizable as a Dredd movie, turning itself into a generic sci-fi action film. Even the visuals, which by then had been one of the saving graces of the movie, are all but gone of the third act save for Hammerstein.
>>
>>65260990
Well they gave it a good shot. Shame about the helmet removing, Hershey love interest and the angel gang getting a look in for some reason.

Evening all,

Does anyone know how many parts the current Megazine story Dead Zone will run for? And the Lawless strip for that matter. I am really enoying both of these strips, with Flints grotesque artwork and the old fashioned black and white style of Lawless.
>>
>>65262277
But think about it, for the £600 you could probably buy pretty much every dredd ever anyway.

I'm still pretty tempted though.
>>
Could a kind anon storytime the rest of Mega City 2?
>>
>>65262326
Sorry, can't help you there. But series in the Megazine tend to run pretty short, 3-4 installments. Lawless may prove an exception tho', being a new series.

Would this compare?
>>
>>65264426
These ones look like they're out of order, more geared towards new fans, and each book will probably be way smaller than the Case Files. If you can get them at a good price and if you're more about having ALL OF DREDD I'd stick with the files, but this collection could be a good idea if you're looking for hardcovers of specific arcs.
>>
>>65264524
I require ALL DREDD.

ALL OF IT.

I remember getting a Dredd badge with an issue of 2000 AD a good decade ago when I briefly collected them. That stopped when I got Limeade all over the ten comics i'd racked up.

Ah well.

Thanks Judge Anon!

Out of interest, what's your favourite arc?

Chapter 2 in this colourised/slightly edited Cry Of The Werewolf strip.
>>
Fuck yeah, Cry of the Werewolf!

>>65267618
Biggest favorite of all time has to be the Apocalypse War. Other than that, I love America, Oz, Necropolis, Origins, and the whole Tour of Duty/Day of Chaos/Trifecta storyline from the last few years. Also, I know it's terrible and wonky, but I still have a soft spot for Judgment Day.

Ah cool - my reading of Dredd has been patchy, in that I'd go with whatever the local library had when I was a penniless teen. That said, I'll always have a soft spot for Helter Skelter and Necropolis - they were the first ones I read

Oooh, Dredd in your library? I'm jelly. And those two are pretty good in my book too, though Helter Skelter hits a lot harder after a few good years of reading other 2000AD stories.

>>65268148
That was the Nero Narcos storyline, right? Really good stuff, though the ending was kinda bleh. And it does lead into a very important moment for my fav Dredd character.

Aye, I've not read it since - current plan is to buy up the complete case files and read through every damn Dredd in order.

My library was great for Dredd - I got through Necropolis, Satan's Island, the Henry Flint collection, several of the PJ Maybe stories, Childhood's End (third arc I read, so I missed a lot of the significance) America (possibly my all time favourite!), and of course Judgement in Gotham.

Woof, those space-faring Anderson stories by Grant were really something else. I remember hating them on my first read, but the more I read them the more I grow to appreciate them.

Sounds like a plan! Also, daaamn, somebody in there must've been a fan.

Haha, now I think about it, there was a ton of Dredd/2000 AD stuff there - possibly more than the Marvel and DC stuff...

Also, it's a sad part of growing up when I have to leave a Dredd storytime thread because I have to be at work early tomorrow... Have a good one Judge Anon!

Man, I'm glad there's been so much Dredd lately. 6 months ago, I knew jack shit about it- assumed it was humorless badasses doing humorless badass things

So glad I was wrong
