Cruhteo did nothing wrong and deserved a long and happy life, the second he found out Slaine was truly loyal he stopped everything and treated him with proper suspicion before that.
Also Slain turned out to be a dripping whackjob who went on to murder his adoptive father and all of the flying fuck that happened in the last couple of episodes of S2 (which really should be blamed on the show for inconsistent characterization), so Cruhteo was actually right even in the beginning.
