It actually is the flavor of the whitebark raspberry with a ton of extra sugar. They're actually nearly black purple, we have some that grow wild all around my parent's property. As another anon already said the other reds and pinks were already taken, better to use the completely unused (and therefore cheap) blue food coloring rather than invent a new, distinct red or purple.
