What is the best flavor of oatmeal, and why is it apples and cinnamon?
The only flavors I see are quick and old fashioned.

Dates, flax and sunflower seeds. Apple and cinnamon is GOAT-tier, though.
>not banana

Flavors?
Steel cut oats don't come in "flavors".

What shithole do you live in where that is true?

>steel cut
>instant

I never noticed much of a difference between instant rolled and instant steel cut. They're alright, but they're pretty bland and there's barely any texture.
Real steel cut oats are so much nicer, if only for the fact that you can toast them before boiling for that little bit of nutty flavour.

>Adding flavors to fiber gruel
Why? The whole point of oats is to be as glutinous and austere as possible. If you wanted sugar and flavor buy some fucking Fruit Loops you wretched man

Why do you mistakenly believe those two things are mutually exclusive?
It is steel-cut, and then parboiled.

Because once they're instant oats they're shit, what they once were is now irrelevant.

I really find instant packets to be gluey and bland, even with oversweetenedness. I make them 100% milk, not water, just to add something that knocks down the sweetness. If I had to pick a "best" flavor, it'd be the one with dates: raisins, dates and walnuts. I'm sure it has a touch of clove in it. Peaches and cream isn't too bad.
All that said, WHOLE OATS are a superior product on texture and nutty flavor difference, and I prefer a top coating of toppings, not mixed in and combined. More texture in each bite. I find oatmeal needs a moment to cool after cooking anyway, so my microwave, no stir , hands off technique is as follows:
1) In 4 cup pyrex, nuke 1/2 cup oats with half milk/half water, using whatever ratio gives you a final consistency of choice. at 40% power for 5-6 minutes. Let rest 2-3 minutes.
2) Decant into your bowl and immediately top favorites, from fresh mango, strawberries, nectarines to demerara brown or coconut sugar and spices (I love allspice!). If you want it decadent, butter-saute some almonds and then glaze with your maple or other favorite spices and sweeteners while your oats cook.

>I add sweetness to knock down the sweetness.
I put in some green apple, banana and cinnamon this morning

Oatmeal > Oat flakes
The best flavor of oatmeal is throwing it in the trash and eating grits instead you fucking pleb.

Because the tart sweetness of apples perfectly pairs with the spiciness of cinnamon.
Cinnamon in general is just a God tier spice but in oatmeal it's vip status.
I like it plain, made of whole milk with a pinch of salt. Then a drizzle of honey on top and splash of milk. Also from a deep soup plate.
