Does /ck/ make their own jerky? It's my favorite snack, but I don't like paying $3/ounce in stores. I just use my oven, but I'm thinking of investing in a dehydrator or a smoker. What do you think?

Why would I waste good meat by turning it into trash?

I have a dehydrator but have also used the oven.
I think the oven works just as well once you have the temperature and door set just right.
Never tried smoking it, I use my smoker for ribs, turkey and nuts mostly.

Relax.

This sounds interesting. What's your oven method? Do you have gas or electric?
>>
Yes, and I use a dehydrator. I would like to smoke it but don't hVe much time.
>>
>>7853655
not who you're talking to but I use the oven as well. Electric. It takes a while and probably uses a lot of electric but still cheaper than buying in-store and can make any flavor I want. I cut mine a lot more thin than what is in OPs photo though but it takes about 5-6 hours for me and still has just a little moisture left in it so it's not dry and hard.

Joy of Cooking has a nice recipe and some simple, detailed method to making jerky.
You should try hunting what you turn into jerky. Start a business. Bobcat jerky? Bear jerky?
>hell yeeiii

If a dehydrator or smoker doesn't allow you to easily experiment with what flavors and spices yuo want, stick to what works.

bear is a terrible meat and it would make an awful jerky, its so fatty and greasy
