Cheese curds. When making cheese sometimes little bits form their own little amorphous blobs. They take the tiny cheese blobs and fry them. It's a 300-year-old version of mozzarella sticks.

(caveat, Mel is trying to retire and letting some different cooks take the wheel without his oversight, so it's a little inconsistent lately. If the man himself is there (somewhat balding white guy) or the more husky back dude is there, then you're gonna have a good burger.

Best burgers, period.

Holy shit I came into this thread seeing it was Culver's and was gonna say something about Port Orange. Used to work at the Mellow Mushroom right down the street from it, had a couple really bomb-ass nights getting stupid high after work and walking on over to gorge on Culver's. Good times.

They just talk slow because their parents slap them for talking at a normal speed because that's not how we do things around here boy

Anyone who talks faster than 11 words per minute is a dishonest city slicker and, in virtue of the fact that they violated the "must talk, look, eat, drink, think, feel, walk, dress, type, cook, and live just like everyone in my locale" rule, if they do in fact talk like that they hate America and have literally never even set foot here

The only sounds in your house are the air conditioner turning on or off, your parents down the hallway turning over in bed, and the sound of keys being typed

A couple months, they opened in November and I started the last week of October. I love some fried cheese sticks with marinara, and I remember being home deep frying them without any marinara, so I dipped in ketchup and ranch at the same time. It was edible , but was for sure NOT tasty. And I love ketchup like its nobody's business!

I'm afraid if I ever did find an establishment that served fried cheese curds and I was not served a side of marinara, I would not be eating them.

I'm not a total fu/ck/ about my food but I am about a few things. These might be one of them.

Do some places serve marinara with them at least?

For Port Orange, Monterey Grill near the super target across from Culvers. Worked there for several years and the food's bretty good. Used to be independently owned but hey changed ownership and some company owns it now. The recipes and menu were left untouched last time I went though and the owners still have Malibu Beach Grill and Santa Fe over at the Pavillion. Check that shit out. Also Cinnamon Tree Cafe next door to Monterey for some kickass crepes.
As for Orlando I don't know a lot of places that aren't chains but if you like burgers get your ass to Beth's Burger Bag near Lake Eola.
>>
>>7824819

>from my experience it's mainly new yorkers who call things meme foods and they call them that specifically because they've worked their way out of their little bubble

Visit a farming town in bumfuck nowhere midwest (or basically just anywhere in Wyoming) if you want to know what a bubble looks like. These aren't people with a specific food culture that they'll irrationally defend; these are people who grew up with nothing but fast food, chain restaurants, and maybe one or two local family restaurants that everyone congregates at after church even though the food is worse than the Applebee's down the street. That is honest to goodness how a large portion of the country lives; Wisconsin and Minnesota get extra attention because they're known for distinctively flyover foods such as tuna casserole and pistachio jello salad.

There is no definition of meme food because meme foods aren't a thing.

Most people who live in places with tourists and an active food scene have been eating things like avocados their entire life and aren't going to stop because they are now on fast food menus and endorsed by Alton Brown. Only someone who's been hyped up about something popular and tries it for the first time, only to be let down, is going to avoid it because it's popular, or a "meme food".

So do you confirm or deny that avocados are provicatively exotic and trigger feelings of alienation? Does each airing of the familiar "eat fresh" slogan, in conjunction with the unknown and difficult to pronounce green object (is it fruit? vegetable?) cause you or not cause you to feel as though you've fallen asleep in your homeland and awakened in a foreign country, full of strange people who look, talk, eat, drink, think, feel, dress, cook, and live in ways that seem like an implicit criticism, if not outright condemnation, of all that you take for granted? Does this greasy dangerous new agricultural product not seem a harbinger of even more terrifying and as yet unknown changes to come? Do you or do you not feel that the faceless executives in charge of the subway marketing campaigns have begun to ignore you, or even mock you in their slavish and unpatriotic support for those who embrace this alien new ingredient? That they literally want you and your ways to just give up and die?

Not trolling, genuinely curious

Quality post; captures a good deal of what it means to be flyover, if being a little (intentionally) strong with the hyperbole.

The true meaning of meme food is a bit more nuanced, though. Take, for example, probably the number one meme food - thanks in part to a popular youtube channel - bacon. Bacon has been a staple in the heartland long since days past, yet once it became a fad to put bacon on everything, and even make bacon breath mints and air fresheners, it somehow became unpopular, at least on paper, if not in practice.

Huh, aside from having both a beard and glasses, using words like "problematic" (?) is the only other thing on that list that describes me.
>>
>>7825461

It's not a meme.

It's an attempt at self-moderation by drawing attention to the extremely high rate of low quality threads started by iphone posters.
>>
>>7825471
What does this have to do with cooking?
>>
>>7825464
Problematic is a legitimate term used in any intelligent conversation about ideas. The thing is, college-aged kids think that peppering their talk with "smart people words" makes them sound more intelligent, so it started getting thrown around by genderfluid otherkin types. In turn, mouth breathers who have never been near a university in their lives saw those words being used on the internet, and associated them with certain specific inflammatory topics, and here we are today.

It's kind of like how "ad hominem" and "straw man" used to be associated with educated people but retards gave them a bad name and now if you say those phrases people make all kinds of derogatory assumptions about you.

Even just talking about the US it's not that common, unless you count mozzarella sticks from Olive Garden or whatever, which is pretty much trash and shouldn't need mentioning. Getting fried cheese curds is pretty much exclusive to a few Mid-West states and parts of NY/NE that are just over the boarder from Montreal. Anywhere else and they're pretty much importing the cheese curds just because poutine is becoming trendy.

Correlation =/= Causation

It's not really about the filename; it's about calling a shit thread shit.
>>
>>7825480
absolutely nothing, you can tell by how he uses "self-moderation" unironicly in regards to something as petty as image format that he's one of the increasingly common self-righteous peices of shit that are just here to smother the life out of every thread unfortunate enough have him think he's a mod or janitor of.
>>
>>7825480

Nothing. That's why I typed "sage" into the "Options" field.
>>
>>7825575

Yeah I would count mozzarella sticks cause I said fried cheese

Also you can find mozerella sticks out side of the Olive Garden and i wouldn't be if just about every developed nation In the word has a fair number of places you can get deep fried cheese

There's a little truth to this, but you might as well have just said, "places with small populations that nobody really cares about".

So only Washington, Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, Missouri, Texas, and Florida are flyover, but Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa aren't? Makes no fucking sense.
