Ever have goulash? Real goulash?

My favorite is the Hungarian variety. Well, they have many varieties. This one is pork, kraut, and dumplings, with some veggies, all topped with sour cream. Wonderful comfort food.

Real gulyás is a soup. What goes for goulash over here is called pörkölt in hungary.

Britchap here:

Goulash seems to me to be a basic stew but with addition of Paprika, correct me if I am wrong?

I have a tin of Venison Goulash, I bought from Lidl, haven't tried it yet. I would be interested to hear some viewpoints from REAL Eastern Euros (as opposed to Americans, who think they have a heritage).

After reading the Wikipedia article, it seems like there are a lot of different ways to make goulash; families have their own unique recipes that may or may not adhere to a dictionary definition. Goulash can certainly be a thicker stew, or a pile of food with a lot of broth that still isn't an actual soup.

Here's "goulash" at the Little Bohemia Tavern in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Is that place owned by the Olinger family? I might be spelling that wrong.

This why I asked earlier for an Eastern Euro input, rather than an American viewpoint. They may taste good but it's corruption beyond belief.
>>
>>7650425
How can something with so many varieties be "corrupted"?

Looks tasty OP, but this will hit the spot on any night and it's so easy to make. Hubby and the kids love when I find time in my busy schedule to make it for them.

This is exactly what my family made every time they said they were making goulash. Its fucking disgusting.
>>
>>7650766

What's so disgusting about it? It's similar to spaghetti only with a different pasta and a thinner/chunkier sauce.

one time I went to a pot luck and someone said there would be goulash. I was expecting some kind of pepper stew, but I got ground beef and tomato on macaroni noodles. flyover cooking, not even once.
