Put it on a low heat covered for a long time. It should soften to goop rather then fry if you leave it for long enough. Onions will do the same thing. If you don't cover it, the moisture will evaporate off and it will fry.

Anyone read The Body by Stephen King (Stand by Me was adapted from this story)? They describe, "pilgrim drumsticks" or something like that - ground beef molded on a green stick and cooked over a fire. The kids burnt the outside and it was raw in the middle, but it sounded so good.
