Pho Thai Nguyen in Oklahoma City
I've been a loyal patron of this place for about 10 years. There are 20+ pho joints in this part of OKC and this one is the finest in my opinion, but I rarely get pho there. They have other dishes that are WAY better.
The plastic foliage and utilitarian decor seem to highlight the fact their top priority is the food
This is one of the few places I've been in my life where the servers ask me if I want the "usual"
They often throw in some neat little extras. Today it was this beverage that they called "special tea for you"
I love the little lazy susan with all the condiments. Sriracha, hoisin, fish sauce, vinegar, soy, chili paste, salt, black pepper, sugar...
Do they seat you, or do you seat yourself?
My usual order: BN-7. I think the proper name for it is bun kho but I'm not at all sure.
It's chilled rice noodles with grilled pork, chinese ham, shrimp, herbs, sprouts, spring onion, spring roll, carrot/daikon pickle, chopped peanuts and a side dish of seasoned fish sauce to pour over the top.
I set up sriracha, hoisin and chili paste in a little dish on the side to dip my meat into

I would love to know what marinade/seasoning they use on these shrimp
I adore the texture of the cool noodles
I have never been able to finish a standard size order.
My buddy gets the same dish but in an off-the-menu larger size with double meat that he usually crushes.

lemon grass and fish sauce+sugar

Aw man come on that's barely half the plate
If you wanna get big and strong like your buddy there, you're gonna have to finish up your meals anon
Otherwise it does look pretty tasty

I showed your post to my Vietnamese wife and she says she thinks its "Bun Thit Nuong" pronounced something like 'boun tic new'
Looks fucking great, OP. Looks like the kind of place I'd be eating at if I were nearby.
Oklahoma has a bustling Vietnamese community? Who knew?
I enjoyed this for some reason its fucking funny but also interesting.
Would be nice to see some autistic ck people documenting solo restaurant trips.
I am envious, OP.
The pho place I go to is overpriced, skimps on meat and veggies.
Oh yeah, I enjoyed the thread.

Yeah, it's a pretty cool story actually. They settled in a part of the inner northside of OKC that had been completely devastated by urban renewal. Through the 80s and 90s they slowly bought virtually all of the commercial real estate in that part of town and now it's a really busy and plesant neighborhood.
I went to high school in the middle of the neighborhood and it's been so awesome to see it grow from a shit hole people sped through on their way out of downtown to a place people drive to from all of the metro to shop and eat.

I've been to Tulsa several times, OKC once or twice, and I never knew that. Will have to keep that in mind next time I'm in the area.

Yo OP, I live in Edmond. Is this place worth driving out to?
>>7582999
absolutely
There are very few decent restaurants north of Memorial Road imo. I understand why people live in places like Edmond, Piedmont, etc... (good schools, low crime) but they are cultural wastelands of the most cookie-cutter whitebread sort.
I also strongly encourage you to explore some of the legit mexican places on the southside. Carniceria El Rodeo on SW 29th comes to mind immediately.
