Sprecher's, out of Milwaukee.

Best root beer EVER.
Henry's
Dad's
Barq's
Others
You fags will argue over everything, so how about this :
Cream soda > Root beer.
>>7527420
A&W nigga.
It's got AGED VANILLA
Abita
Tommyknocker
Virgil's
Sioux City (root beer and sarsaparilla are both god tier)
source: spent two weeks buying every root beer I could get my hands on and meticulously rating them
Barrelhead, prove me wrong.
Oh wait you can't since they got bought up and shut down to remove competition for A&W.
>>7527406
My negro
99ยข for 3L, you're literally retarded if you throw your money away on anything else
>>7527420
I will concede that Sprecher's cream soda is superior to their root beer. It's sorta what I imagine butterbeer would taste like.
>>7527415
Henry's is the tip top. I'm sure there are other more obscure brands out there that are just as good if not better, but Henry's is best for taste and availability.
>>7527420
kill yourself
>the most popular beer in the US is a soda
YOU JUST CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP
>There are people out there that not only drink the swill companies call "root beer" but think it's good, not realizing that unlike pic related what they drink is fake shit.
Fact: Root beer tastes like tooth paste.
>>7527288
Not fucking barq's. That shit tastes like airy diet coke with black liqourice. Fuck you, Smith's/Fry's brand and A&W all the way.
>>7527323
Dad's is the 'craft' root beer that I'll always go to. Just a bit better than Virgil's, but much harder to find (by much harder, I mean going to World Market over Kroger).
>nutrient-free calories
No, thanks.
a&w from the fountain.
you have to go to fast food restaurant, or maybe kfc/taco bell/pizza hut to get the legit stuff.
>>7527587
please die. i like my root beer to taste above shit tier.
is it true that root beer doesn't actually have sassafras root in it any more because of some bogus fda study?
>>7527988
>sassafras root
yes
Safrole, the aromatic oil found in sassafras roots and bark that gave traditional root beer its distinctive flavour, was banned for commercially mass-produced foods and drugs by the FDA in 1960.[8] Laboratory animals that were given oral doses of sassafras tea or sassafras oil that contained large doses of safrole developed permanent liver damage or various types of cancer.[8] While sassafras is no longer used in commercially produced root beer and is sometimes substituted with artificial flavors, natural extracts with the safrole distilled and removed are available.[9][10]

Root beers that list sassafras as an ingredient today, such as those made by Hansenโs Natural Soda or Thomas Kemper, use a safrole-free extract. Some purists swear this fiddling has ruined the taste, but Jack Mitchell, chef and proprietor of Sassafras restaurant in Santa Rosa, California, says, โI can almost guarantee that you cannot tell a difference.โ Besides, Mitchell says, todayโs root beers go heavy on the vanilla and honey, which is what the modern palate is attuned to.
Itโs still possible to find sassafras root bark being sold as a tea or as a folk remedy for lice, skin inflammations, and arthritis. If the safrole hasnโt been removed, it can be legally sold only as a topical skin wash or as โaromatic potpourri.โ Traditionalists, however, think that safroleโs health benefits outweigh its dangers; stores that continue to sell sassafras with safrole, such as the Penn Herb Co. Ltd., list its traditional uses but include the warning, โItem considered unsafe as a food by the FDA.โ Since these items are sold as dietary supplements, not as food, theyโre not regulated by the FDA.
Powdered sassafras leaves are still sold as file, a thickening spice for gumbo, and are categorized as โgenerally recognized as safe,โ according to FDA spokesman Mike Herndon, because they donโt contain a significant amount of safrole.
>>7528017
>safrole
It occurs naturally in a variety of spices, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and black pepper and herbs such as basil. In that role, safrole, like many naturally occurring compounds, may have a small but measurable ability to induce cancer in rodents. Despite this, the effects in humans were estimated by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to be similar to risks posed by breathing indoor air or drinking municipally supplied water.
>>7528017
>almost guarantee
>>7528021
The cheap cassia sold as cinnamon in the U.S. can be pretty bad for your liver if you have half a teaspoon daily. I put ceylon in my oatmeal.

>>7527288
None of it.
Soda is for kids.
>>7528052
St.Louis here, Fitz's is great stuff.
Their berry pomegranate is the best soda. I get like maybe one thing of four bottles a month at most, but that's almost always the one.
>>7528203
>2016
>drinking
>>7528203
Usually yes, but the occasional micro brewed root beer is enough to suffice.
>>7527288
Standard old at the store soda?
Probably A&W or IBC.
There are a lot of the "nostalgia" or "craft" root beers that come in glass bottles that are really good.
I really love Goose Island and Red Arrow.

I wish I could buy root beer where I love, but nowhere sells it :(
everything from Louisiana always tastes better
>although in recent years theyve sweetened it up a bit too much for my taste
>>7527288
Not that, that's for sure.
>>7528221
Sup fellow Missouri bro. Fitz is the shit, although I have fond memories of being a kid and going go cracker barrel and getting a bottle of root beer. I think that was A&W.
>>7527288
Hanks is the undisputed champ
You better apply yourself, senpai
Everyone in this thread who didn't say A&W root beer from the tap from one of their restaurants should just go back to fucking piss water Pepsi.
A&W from the tap is literally nectar of the Gods.
>>7528454
It tastes meh, Culvers root beer is better
>>7527288
colgate
>>7527420
I like both. But probably Root Beer more, because it pairs better with a burger and fries.
Not your father's
Sprecher's is some top-tier root beer.
I also tried something called Dang! That's Good root beer with butterscotch in it. Good shit.
Virgil's is great but I don't have it often. It's also just a little bit too sweet
>>7527877
Did you bring that to a fast food restaurant to fill up?
Sprecher's is the best damn root beer I ever drank.
I'm gonna miss it so much when i have to move to Cali next month.
and is there any good local root beer in cali?
preferably in the bay area?
>>7527833
Man sucks to be you. When summer hits they sell it in 36 packs at costco where I live.
I've only found this stuff in a few places, but it's the best root beer I have had in a long time.
>>7527467
AW and 1919
Barq's is reddit tier
>>7527288
>>7529794

Not an aus, but this one is best I can find sold in UK.
THEY'RE ALL VERY SIMILAR
GREW UP ON STEWARTS
>>7530612
tfw its the only one you can find in the UK apart from some overpriced AW in sweet shops
>>7528802
A&W restaurants sell root beer by the half gallon.
Y'all don't prefer the superior taste of Sioux City?
>>7529829
You'd be able to taste what makes it great if you didn't chug it.
>>7530671
this, but it's only root beer that's not A&W and Barq that I have tried
the best is barqs
but its hard to find now i dont know why they stopped carrying it in most stores
>>7527415
my only complaint about henry's is that the head is too strong if you pour it wrong, or drink it out of the bottle. other than that, it's fucking unbelievable.
me? i like birch beer; wife can't stand the stuff
This had a great flavor, but not enough carbonation. It says to brew 3 days but I'd give it 5 next time.
fight me
Virgil's makes good stuff.
>>7527288
You already posted it.
Barq's>A&W>IBC>Everything else
Sprecher's
>>7534158
*sidenote: I did a tour of their factory (brewery?) in Wisconsin because I was bored one day, it's pretty neat and they have all of their flavors for sampling.
Their cream soda is godlike.
>>7534140
Just goes to show how wrong you can be.
>>7530612
I had this once thinking it was going to be legit shit. Wasn't the best root beer I've tried. I've had cheaper versions that taste better.
>Empty Calories
Enjoy your diabetus.
>>7527288
What do you mean "Barq's has bite"?
>>7527288
;^)
>underaged b&s will never know this feel
>>7527288
What do you mean bark's has bite?
>>7536903
That stuff is literally designed for underage teens...
>>7527824
Virgil's fucking sucks.
>>7527479
thank you for your service anon
We may never agree on a best root beer, but I think everyone can agree that Mug is lower than shit tier absolute filth
>>7527288
Mug is literally the only good mainstream root beer, with barqs being a distant second.
>>7539085
Its not as its priced way too high. I think its more targeted to women, or men who are trying to bang their kids teen babysitter.
>>7527825
It tastes like bubblegum to me
>>7527415
Henry's is top tier. Cept for the fact that if you drink it in a certain way, foam will shoot out of the top even though it started fine. That plus st. johns. St. johns is amazing
Pic related is my favorite.
>>7527288
Least favorite
>>7527323
Pretty good. Always have it at my friend's house.
Very good price-quality ratio.
>>7527406
Not that great.
>>7527415
Tried it, but don't remember the details. I guess nothing stuck out about it to me.
>>7527824
Very good.
>>7528319
Also very good.
>>7528449
Okay
>>7528586
I don't really like Sprecher sodas that much. I don't know why. Is it the honey?
>>7529794
Good, but not root beer.
>>7530671
Okay
>>7539116
Bad, but better than Barq's
>>7541238

Sinners, all of you
> Not a single mention of of Faygo's Root Beer
Have none of y'all visited Michigan, before?
>>7541872
anything jones sucks
>>7542292
I can't think of any reason to go to Michigan. Unless you want to get murdered or something
If you guys ever go to eastern PA, the Amish people there actually homebrew it and sell it on the roadsides or from their barns. When you finish a bottle, you turn it back in and they'll reuse it. Its the most flavorful root beer I've ever had.
Also, has anyone ever had birch beer or is that more of a regional thing?
>>7542302
the upper peninsula if you enjoy nature.
>>7542302
There's Hell, Mackinac Island and its fudge, the whole damn state is good if you stay out of Detroit.
>>7541872
Meme soda
>>7527587
If you're that desperate for soda with so little money your a poor fat fuck
>>7536903
I think I had this at a Gettysburg reenactment when I was little,
>>7542359
I've had birch beer. It was exactly how I assumed it would be, slightly sweet and tasting of birch oil. It's pretty decent.
>>7528221
I am really fond of their ginger ale personally. It just has that burning kick that no other ginger ale I've had has. Living in Michigan now and I have no fucking clue why Vernors is so loved.
>>7542491
Most of us Michiganians aren't picky. It's also pretty cheap, at least in the thumb.
>>7539116
Always liked this most as a kid, it's got a sick fucking hound on the can
>>7543752
That file name!
>>7527288
My cousin
Growing up their family always had this
Seeing this hit a big nostalgia button in me and now I want to cry
>>7528839
