I should get a sourdough starter going so I can serve my vegan stew on bread trenchers. Was whole wheat bread the default in medieval times? Or had they already developed white flour production methods more efficient than Rome's linen sifting?

when I was in highschool I would get the penne alla vodka bread bowl at the pizzeria across the street for lunch. Shit was the best, bowl soaked up all the extra sauce
