What is the best tasting species of fish?
>>
Freshwater, I'd say trout (though sturgeon is pretty damned good). Saltwater, I'd say halibut.

You?
>>
Smoked white fish is my favorite.
>>
>>7398207
I don't really remember most species of fish I've had unfortunately. I had quite a few when I lived in Hawaii and it was all pretty good

Other than that I've just stuck to salmon mostly

Blue gill and croppie are both good.
For some reason the meat tastes different when you catch them ice fishing.

Saltwater (oily) - Wild caught sockeye
Saltwater (lean) - Wild Atlantic Cod. Make sure to buy MSC certified Icelandic Cod, or cod caught by handline only in the Georges Bank (USA). Most stocks of this species are critically overfished to the point of near-collapse or worse.

Freshwater - Walleye, Yellow Perch, or Smelts
>>
>>7398699
actually, forget the sockeye though. there are sustainability concerns about that fishery too. :(
>>
Saltwater: hagfish
Freshwater: koi

Was just in los cabos, mexico and caught a yellowfin tuna.. Had it prepared a couple different ways at the restaurant connected to the timeshare I was staying at... Best tasting fish I've had by a longshot. Ate it the first night it was caught, and 2 days after.

Best was the sashimi with just soy sauce/ wasabi or the mustard based sauce they provided. Second best was blackened.
>>
>>7398375
Only had that shit once and it was fucking amazing. There was this citrus reduction and shallots that were cooked to perfection.

Plus it was all free
>>
I've heard good things about mahi mahi, but I've never had it. What do you guys think of it? What fish would you choose for some California-style fish tacos?
>>
>>7398183
All around, Atlantic salmon, with sockeye not far behind.

For white meat, it's halibut in salt and walleye in fresh.

Raw, however, my favorite is eel, followed by salmon.

I saw this eel today on the river. It was rather big...
>>
>>7398183
Personally for me it depends hugely on the method of preparation
smoked - rainbow trout
grilled - salmon
fried - cod
cooked over campfire by stick - perch
>>
>>7399307
floridafag here, honestly I don't remember there being much distinct flavor to Mahi, used to go down to the keys and catch a fuckton of them. I'd probably go with grouper or snapper, if those aren't available then maybe flounder or halibut.

I love mackerel grilled, pan fried, broiled, on sushi, or canned (I have pic related stocked, they're pretty good on rice mixed with rice vinegar and grated ginger).

Aussies dont rate that bullshit salmon at all you bunch of misinformed faggots, you can literally buy it for like $3kg fresh because most cunts wont even give it to their cats.
If caught and bled IMMEDIATELY it is palatble, but most fisherman use it for bait, myself included, a 1kg livie will do wonders for big kingies

Fuck yes.

Best freshwater fish is sturgeon.
Best saltwater fish is black cod.
Best crustacean is either king crab or spot prawns.
Best shellfish is mussels. Scallops are great too but a perfectly juicy mussel with some broth is GOAT.
Best other aquatic creature is octopus. Well prepared octopus is godly.

Hagfish is valued as food on the Korean Peninsula. The hagfish is kept alive and irritated by rattling its container with a stick, prompting it to produce slime in large quantities. This slime is used in a similar manner as egg whites in various forms of cookery in the region.
