I'm having a few people over tonight and could use some good cocktail recipes. I know how to make basic stuff like manhattans etc. but want to have some more unusual drinks that'll impress people in my repertoire.
I have: plenty of all major liquors (whiskey, vodka, gin, tequila, rum), simple syrup, grenadine, cherries, strawberries, lemons, limes, olives, limoncello, Cointreau, sweet vermouth, seltzer, a blender, and plenty of beer/wine/champagne and ice.

Here's a classic that you don't see very often and it works well because you have champagne on hand.
I'm a big fan of French 75s, champagne/bubbly cocktails always look impressive.

Those are some lesser known cocktails. The first two are made of ingredients you definitely have. The Ramos gin fizz may be a bit too much work for a party but it's something to consider.

Are there any good, thorough, concise guides to wine styles out there? I want something where I can see a bottle at the store, look up what kind of wine it is and maybe where it's from, and have a general idea of what I'm getting into. Googling it means sorting through 5 different websites that may or may not have any idea what they're talking about, and Wikipedia has the usual Wikipedia problem of everyone trying to show off how much they know and competing to see who can be the most technically correct, at the expense of being fucking incomprehensible to anyone who'd actually need to read the article
