I'm moving to college in a week /ck/. I know some of you here are already there or have been in the past, and I'm looking to find ways to make relatively simple meals for a long period of time. Breakfast and lunch I can just buy the same cereal/bread whatever, but dinner will be the main challenge. I can make some fairly simple stuff like Chilli and different types of pasta but buying ingredients for them could be difficult. Any help is appreciated.
>tldr how do you stretch a dollar

dunk the dollar in water, lay it on a flat surface and tug lightly at the sides. Keep repeating the process until it's stretched enough.
These two dishes are my weekly staples:
>Italian Sausage
>Penne
>Jar of Ragu
Cheap Italian food right there. Should last a couple days, if you aren't a fat fuck.
>Ham
>Olives
>Provolone
>Bread
These can make easy, cheap, and nice tasting muffalettas.

If you share a kitchen how about getting to know everyone (alcohol helps) well enough that you can make the slight accommodation to get together for dinner a couple times a week.
Or is that just too much of a stretch for the current generation?
Pasta + Sauce + Meat/Veg
Rice + Meat/Veg
Soy sauce is a godsend. Use it when cooking meats for easy flavour.

Buy vitamins and take em once in a while, not everyday. Get a frying pan. Frying pans dont need washing after every meal, just a wipe down.
One egg, toast and american cheese for breakfast. Get a coffee maker, cheapest caffeine.
Do whatever for lunch. Have a microwave for some stuff.
Get a cheap fridge for your room so you can lock up your ingredients that cost money or are boozey.
Veggies are cheap and filling, stirfry tastes good. Eggs are cheap, rice is cheap, beans are cheap, some meats like chicken legs/thighs are cheap and they all cook up really nice in a pan.
I also really do suggest getting a meal plan.
i fucking love pancake cat tbph

My college was very restrictive over what appliances were allowed in our dorms. We weren't allowed crockpots or electric skillets. It kind of sucked.

I intend to, but have no idea what anyone there will be like.

I want to say making the sauce yourself is cheaper because you can make massive batches and freeze it.
I eat a lot and one batch is normally enough for spaghetti twice and maybe chicken Parmesan. And by batch I mean around $6 worth of canned tomatoes, garlic, onions, and whatever.
Thanks guys.

Get vitamins, fish oil, and find the cheapest complete protein you can find. Sometimes it's chicken thighs, sometimes it's eggs. From there, fill in calories with rice and beans/lentils

Actually buying caffeine pills, from a drugstore but especially from Amazon, is cheaper. Also less hassle and no cleaup.

how is the answer to that ever not "yes"?
>>7396760
Rice porridge, a cup of rice will make 3-4 servings of it. Just add ground meat and a couple of types of vegetables
>>7396760
Collegefag here. Look into dishes based heavily on rice, beans, and/or lentils. They're cheap, nutritious, and will last a long time if properly stored. You're also going to have to get used to buying and cooking seasonal vegetables. Also, your budget permits, buy a box of frozen chicken breasts.
when people say they're poor how much money does that actually mean? I feel like I eat pretty well on $6-10 a day. I would only have to resort to beans and rice if I was down to $3-4 a day.

No you're not. It's the middle of the semester.

No it isn't.

$60 a week seems fairly cheap.
