Let's talk about the history of certain foods.

For example: Lobsters are literal sea insects, and used to be treated as garbage food that would fed to prisoners during the Revolutionary War.

During the 1800's, wealthy foreigners would visit seaside towns looking for exotic food, and since a lot of Americans hated Europeans, they gave them lobster as a way of fucking with them, but it backfired and became an upper class delicacy.
>>
>tfw you don't like lobster cause you're not a pleb and have tastebuds.
>>
Sushi was invented by a poor person who subsisted on scraps of fish. Vinegar was added to rice because vinegar acted as a natural preserving agent, allowing for the rice to last longer, which would be in the best interests of a poor person.
>>
Around the time of the American Civil War, deep-frying became increasingly common because it was a cheap method of cooking a lot of food in a short amount of time. This was handy for feeding a lot of soldiers & slaves.

They would give the cheap stuff to the slaves, such as chicken, which was cheaper than other types of meat, as well as offal (organ meat). This is why fried chicken is so popular with black people; because their ancestors ate it.

A lot of southern comfort food & soul food are inspired by the foods of those times. That's why the cuisine uses ingredients that would normally be scrapped.

>Lobsters are literal sea insects,

No, they're not.

Potato chips was invented by a frustrated cook who wanted to fuck with a particularly nasty customer.

Some picky asshole was bothering the cook at one diner because his fries were too thick. So the cook cut the potatoes thinner and served it to him. The customer still didn't like it, insisting that they be thinner. After several exchanges of this, the cook eventually became fed up and sliced his potatoes nearly paper-thin, fried them that way, and salted the shit out of it. Turns out, this was exactly how the customer wanted it.
>>
Newspapers were invented by a writer who subsisted on scraps on cool stories and bar banter.

They would talk shit to their fellow countrymen and try to one up each other with stories of politics and business. A lot of stories were only loosely based on a real event but they found they could easily control most people and capture energy from the movement of these large herds of dipshits.

Nikujaga was supposedly a mistake.

The admiral of the Japanese navy was apparently big fan of British cuisine, and his favorite dish was beef stew. He had asked his chefs to make it for him, but the chefs, being that they are Japanese, were unfamiliar with British cuisine. They tried making it using local ingredients, and came up with something totally different.

While their creation was nothing close to beef stew, it was still good, and that's how nikujaga was born.

Haagse Hopjes is a kind of toffee candy from the netherlands. The guy who invented them was a lover of coffee until the doctor told him he could no longer drink it, as a result he made candy that tasted like coffee so he could continue to enjoy the taste of it without risking his health. They are quite good, I can recommend them if you ever come across them.

>Lobsters are garbage food fed to prisoners and everyone hated them

Where did this meme start? There was no refrigeration or ideal way of getting seafood from the shores to the mainland. What would happen is you would have your lobster travelling for days, weeks and even months in a hotbox with no refrigeration which at that point it is an absolutely revolting mess that no one wanted to even touch let alone eat.

While on the shores lobsters were enjoyed fresh and were considered delicious and everyone loved them. When refrigeration came about the mainland slowly accepted them and grew out of their garbage food ideal.

>tfw when flyover states literally can't enjoy fine lobster
>>
>>7303112
Lobster was considered poor people food because if you ate that, it meant your family was too poor to buy food and were forced to eat their catch.
>>
>>7303116
Each and every single time people bring up poor people food meme the reasoning always changes so source on that
>>
>>7303112
It started because that back in the day they never cooked lobsters like they would now, but just mashing it up and boiling it into a stew
Only poor people who couldn't afford to eat "tastier" catches ate them
Also, nobody on the mainland ate lobster because you couldn't transport seafood that far due to lack of refrigeration and transportation
>>
>>7303150
Furthermore, Lobster only became popular as refrigeration and transportation became more efficient to actually bring lobster further inland
>>
>>7303154
That's cool, still not a source though
>>

"In colonial times, lobsters were considered “poverty food”. They were harvested by hand along the shoreline and served to prisoners and indentured servants who exchanged their passage to America for seven years of service to their sponsors."

>>
>>7303285
No, they're right.

They're not "insects" the same way we are not "monkeys", just because we share a common ancestor. They are a crustacean and a nephropidae, not some sort of bug. Fuck I would give you credit if you said they were more like a crayfish's more threatening cousin.

They were poverty food back then because it was a new species that was refused to be ate by picky eaters due to it's reputation of being only useful for bait and the difficulty it was to catch them. Ever wonder why they band a lobster's claws these days? Because they have claws that can be powerful enough to break your hands.

So people had no problem chucking them to the poor and saying "there's your lunch".

So, yeah. They are poor people's food, but you're literally retarded for saying "NUH UH YOU'RE WRONG THEY'RE SEA INSECTS"

Pick up a biology book next time.
>>

Doubles were invented when a customer wanted an extra bara. Originally you got one bara and channa but the customer told the vendor to "double it up" and that's how doubles were created.

Beer a few hundred years ago was very different. It was mostly low in alcohol and drunk fresh. Beer like that is actually very nutritious as it contains calories, protein and pro-biotic bacteria. Most ancient texts make a distinction between young beer and strong alcoholic beer.
>>
Oysters were also considered poverty food and they were one of the staples of middle ages coastal peasants. They were so numerous that they were the cheapest source of animal protein. Oysters only became a delicacy when they started to become rarer due to over fishing and the price increased.

No, neckbeard. Beer was made with boiled water and back then people were too stupid to make the connection between the boiling and the water being safe.

The alcohol level in non-distilled beverages isn't nearly enough to kill off harmful pathogens. The yeast aren't going to hunt and kill parasites or bacteria. So what would you think makes the beer safe?

Why do we have different words for the animal and their meat in English? Because of the Norman conquest. The animal names - cow, bull, pig, sheep, deer etc are the Saxon words. The meats - pork, beef, lamb, venison etc are named from the Norman words. Because the peasant Saxons looked after the animals, but the ruling Normans got to eat them.

Fajitas used to be eaten and cooked only by poor mexicans since the meat cut used was considered trash and was too tough to be eaten without being marinated correctly, unlike other meat cuts in cows.

>>
>>7303703
that's better for us and because lobsters are mostly bottom feeders, they probably wouldn't damage too many other animals
The only other problem might arise in other animals that feed on lobsters seeing an increase in population due to prey population increase OR because the lobsters are so much larger, predators die off because they can't eat as much lobster
The predators mostly include fish we also eat, so it's either really good or really bad
>>

Apples are sour. During the later 1800s effort was made to breed sweater apples.
Apples before that point was 90% used to make cider of.

Which is also why Pinochio eating a apple in the tale was a big deal, because its very sour and the skin wasn't that great.

"Reusing" seeds (planting them, growing them, eating them, planting leftover seeds, etc.) could actually reintroduce their poisonous traits.

In the spirit of OP:

Caviar. While caviar has been served throughout history, the idea of it being a super elite food comes from tsarist russia. The sturgeon fishermen would eat the roe because the rest of the fish was too valuable to sell for them to eat. And the rich people buying the fish saw the fishermen eating the roe and figured that it must mean that is the best part of the fish, and they started buying the roe as prized. It got to the point where Sturgeon Roe was so prized and expensive that only the royals would get it.

Jesus Christ you dumb fucking nigger barbarian. I know you didn't pay attention in history class. Until after the Great Depression chicken was a luxury meat. The phrase "and a chicken in every pot" was like saying "And steak and lobster on every plate!" today.

And no they did not eat the roosters, at least not often, the roosters would be killed as chicks and ground up for pig feed or something like that for animals that could digest the bone bits. Roosters are tough as fuck, you have absolutely NO idea how tough rooster meat can be.

Fried chicken was a family dinner thing and was an early form of Nigger-Riching that southern nigs indulged in. They would try to afford chicken to prove to their black and poor white neighbors that "they hads monies". Also it was delicious and became a cultural icon of the south like Ribs.

But no, chicken has only very recently become the cheapest kind of meat.

>There are three main branches on the arthropod's family tree:

> Trilobita -- marine arthropods that were abundant in prehistoric times but became extinct about 245 million years ago. Very little is known about their ecology.
>Chelicerata -- includes spiders, ticks, mites, scorpions, and horseshoe crabs. These are predatory animals with fang-like mouthparts (chelicerae) that contain a poison gland.
> Mandibulata -- includes crustaceans, myriapods, and insects. These animals have mandibles and maxillae among their mouthparts. They represent a wide range of ecological adaptations.

>One group of Mandibulata (class Crustacea) became adapted to marine life -- they currently populate a wide range of habitats throughout the world's oceans. Another group, the ancestors of myriapods (e.g. millipedes and centipedes) became adapted for life on land. Gradual reductions in the number of trunk segments and walking legs eventually led to the appearance of six-legged animals (hexapods) with three distinct body regions: head, thorax, and abdomen. This group includes all of the insects (class Insecta) and three other closely related classes (Protura, Diplura, and Collembola.

The local dish "Rundstück warm", a roast piece or grounded steak with gravy between 2 slices of bread, came with german sailors and immigrants to America.
There locals pimped the "Rundstück warm" or "Hamburger Steak" (grounded steak without buns) with different sauces, salat and tomatos into the loved Hamburger.
