I am an American currently studying in Britain and I can tell you now, that Brit food isn't as bad as I was led to believe. I think the bland food thing came from post war austerity but Brits have some good stuff.
They love pies, Steak and Kidney seems to be a favorite here and their chippys are pretty good, you can't get good fish and chips back home like you can in England. The food on the whole is more expensive though, their burgers are shit and they can't do a good steak to save their lives.
One thing I have noticed is that their food is less sweet, Worcestershire sauce is more spicy, so are the baked beans and I have even got to like Marmite (sort of).
Mexican food is non-existent here but people make their own Chilli-con-carne and sushi is pretty much unheard of but nobody really cares anyway.
Black pudding is good and so are faggots but I can't wait to get home next year for a decent burger.
