I will be in the great land of freedom and burgers for the next 2.5 weeks, and I want to have some suggestions on what I have to try to:

>a) understand all that hype around fastfood this place seems to have
>b) see that the US is not only the land of fat and sugar as it is often implied, but actually does offer some nice food
>c) see that the US is really a very very fat and gluttonous nation, and I am very happy to be european

I will be in Las Vegas and San Francisco.

Obviously, I am in hotels, so I cant get stuff in the supermarket that would require preprations, so I am looking for ready to eat stuff like candies, but also restaurants, fast food or real food, that will break and reinforce my prejudices.
>>

if you need someone else to point out the difference between fast food and regular food when traveling abroad, you're more retarded than an "amerifat."
just look at the places that don't appear every 3 or 2 major intersections and there you have a fucking fine dining establishment motherfucker.
if a fucvking 500 lb. landwhale can waddle into the only authentic waffle house in belgium and order authentic Belgian waffles only to say "This isn't as good as IHOP!" and slap the waiter in a frenzy of anti patriarchial fatty rage, how can your "educated" asshole not find it's way to a fine dining establishment in a foreign land?

You're going to see the peaks of amerifats at it's finest in vegas. If you want a decent but overpriced buffet try the wicked spoon in the Cosmopolitan. If you want the real spectacle go down to Freemont street and watch through the window of the heart attack grill as 300+ pound behemoths get on a scale to see if they qualify for a free meal where everything is fried in lard or has buttermilk. Head further down the street to the container park and you can actually get some cheap healthy meals as well.
>>
>>7128190
Dude, that's cool! I went there three years ago because my cousin was graduating from Berkeley. Their food was spicy, but super good. I have been looking for Ethiopian places since.
How many times have you been? Why did you choose Ethiopian?

>Las Vegas and San Francisco

First, stay away from the fast food.

Vegas: It's a gambling town, and Nevada doesn't really have a distinctive regional cuisine. However, some of the casinos go all out and run some world class restaurants.

Go with - Prime rib steak dinners, ANY steak dinners, Tex-Mex / Mex-American foods from a good place, pulled pork BBQ, BBQ spare ribs, BBQ chicken, BBQ brisket

San Fran: This is another part of the country that doesn't have a distinctive regional cuisine, however, it does have a huge Asian immigrant influence.

Go with - Seafood, Chinese food, Japanese food, steak dinners, artisan pizza, Mex-American food.

San Fran pizza joint: http://tonyspizzanapoletana.com/

There's plenty of quality restaurants in both places, so if you eat any shit food, it's on you.
>>

cioppino
farm to table
sf sourdough

mission burrito
>>
>>7128040

Fisherman's Wharf in Frisco. Tourist-y but the seafood is excellent, particularly the soups and chowders. And sourdough bread, which I don't usually like, but it's so great in Frisco you ought to try it regardless.

Chinatown can be a blast.

Is "Greens" still in operation at Ft. Mason? If so, see if they still offer lunch, which was semi-affordable. This is decades ago... I stopped visiting Frisco.
>>
>>7128040

Sonofabitch, Greens is still there:

>>
Freemont street LV go to Pizza Rock and get detroit style add ham.

Buffet LV go to the wynn.

SF Naan and Curry. Its BYOB so go to the supermarket down the street and pick up some beers then go. Fantastic vindaloo.

If your on a bus and stop in Santa Maria CA, get some tritip.
>>
>>7128040

If you're in San Francisco go to Ike's Sandwiches. To this day I haven't had another sandwich that compares. Be aware that the sandwiches are over 1000 calories though.
>>

First, it's a dish, and second, never heard of it, and neither has anybody else outside of San Franciso.

No different than Wisconsin, Missouri, or Vermont sourdough
>pretty much the birthplace of american chinese food
All of which can be found in any major city with a Chinese population, like NYC
>mission burrito
Little different than any other burrito you could get in any other Mexican joint.

San Francisco has good restaurants, but there isn't anything unique about any of the foods there, and there is no such thing as "San Francisco" cuisine anywhere outside of San Francisco. If anything, outside of the basics like steak, and seafood, people will find bastardized and inferiror versions of other regions styles and cuisine, like most American cities.
>>

that's what makes it distinctive and regional, silly billy

>No different than Wisconsin, Missouri, or Vermont sourdough
Those shit places don't have a bacteria named after them.
>All of which can be found in any major city with a Chinese population, like NYC
And you can find Italian, BBQ, Mexican, etc. everywhere. Chinese food is the best in SF.
>Little different than any other burrito you could get in any other Mexican joint.
Because those Mexican places copied it.

Sadly, you're going to two of the worst cities in the US for American food.
Neither LV nor SF have much in the way of roots, you see. They're flowers in a vase, replaced when they've lost their colour, rather than a properly cared for potted plant. For actual American food, you need to go to a city where people are actually born, grow old, die and get buried there. A place where generations and generations of the same family live in somewhat close proximity. A place with roots.
Generally, those who live in SF and LV are transplants and few-to-none are lifers.

That's not to say the food is bad. It's not. It's just not American food. There's very good foreign food, nouveau cuisine and fusion places in both SF and LV, but precious little in the way of actual American cuisine, sorry.

The hype around fast food is /ck/ being dumb, most of the stuff that gets a ton of threads devoted to it is shit.

San Francisco has way better food on average than Vegas. If you want a good burger, go to Burgermeister in San Francisco. You should also go to St. Francis Fountain on 24th street for a really good, very American breakfast when you're there. Get the "Chef's Mess" to truly experience fatty American breakfast. Also try weird ice creams from Bi-Rite and Humphry Slocombe.

Really the thing that Americans are best at is appropriating the shit out of other cuisines. SW cuisine is cool though. It's kind of like Tex-Mex that hasn't been thoroughly corrupted by consumerism
yet
. Santa Fe is a fantastic food town. I bet Las Vegas will have some of that stuff too, but you'll probably want to look for diner stuff as opposed to the big "haute cuisine" adaptations of SW food.

No you just sound naive and ignorant. It seems like your knowledge of food doesn't go much farther than chain restaurants. Cultures co-opting and adapting another cultures cuisine to their own tastes is one of the oldest tricks in the book of life. And if you STILL have a problem with that you're going to have a full on heart attack if you travel to, say, Japan and see what their take on western cuisine is like. Then again, you probably only think whites can co-opt cultural trappings

OP, you'll be able to find all kinds of good food in Vegas and San Fransicko, but the only real "American" style you'll find is southwestern style, which is essentially Americanized Mexican food, which is essentially Mexicanized Spanish foods.

One of the good things about the U.S., however, is that there's usually a lot of fairly authentic ethnic foods in any given major city, so even if it has been "Americanized", it's still pretty damn good, and NOBODY does steak like we do.

Try these steaks from a good steak house: Filet mignon, porterhouse, New York strip, and a prime rib.

There's no such thing as "black food", as all "black food" is simply southern food.

The only reason southern food is associated with blacks is because a lot of blacks migrated to northern cities looking for work after slavery ended, and they brought their southern cuisine with them. Northern whites weren't used to seeing southern cooking and simply associated it with blacks, instead of the south.

Fried chicken, collard greens, ham hocks, chitlins, BBQ, ribs, corn bread, cured hams, black eyed peas, okra, everything that is considered "black" or "soul food" were staple foods of whites in the south as well, and it's all simply southern food.

Quit trying to appropriate my culture.

We were talking about REGIONAL cuisine, like southern, Cajun, Tex-Mex, New England, or southwestern, not simply local food dishes in any given city.

Everybody knows San Francisco is famous for eating dicks, but dick eating is their local, not regional, specialty.

That's like saying NYC is not its own region.

Only in the minds of pretentious urbanites.

A city is PART of a region, not a region in and of itself.

There are dozens of great sushi places throughout the valley, I can vouch for Spicy Tuna as a personal favorite. Chao Thai by UNLV has a decent lunch deal and the food is excellent. Lindo Michoacan in Henderson is fantastic and has a great view of the Strip. I think there's another location in the city proper, but I haven't been to it.

For ridiculously fatty American-style food, Cheeburger Cheeburger and Heart Attack Grill are about as bad as it gets. Cheeburger has a list of like 30 different milkshake flavors. If you want a big breakfast, try out either Blueberry Hill (multiple locations) or Eggworks (multiple locations under different names, I think "The Egg And I" is one?). Both have a kind of rural/antiquated American feel to them, and the food is great.

For fast food, In-N-Out is tasty and abundant in the valley. Roberto's if you want decent Mexican fast food.

As an aside, I recommend you stop off in Chinatown and get some of Ronald's Donuts. They only take cash, but they're so damn good. There are some good places around there as well.

Get some good barbecue. Ribs and brisket
>>
A) you have fast food in your shitty country. Stop trying to make anyone believe how shocked and appalled you are when you go to McDonald's that is pretty much the same as at your home.

B) of course it has good food. Look for highly rated places. If I went to shitstainia, where you hail from, and only go to fast food and chains I'd be sad too.

C) good luck with that. The real fatties are almost all inland, and there are good reasons you listen to American music, eat American food, watch American movies and shitpost on American image boards.

Isn't it nice that we found something in common?

Nyfag here. I don't really have a problem with most of Cali, but based on hearsay and opinions of people I've met from Cali, SF is an overpriced, overrated place. I imagine all the flamboyant shit would get old really quick.

Would want to visit TX some time for the BBQ senpai

Please never leave NYC or speak to someone outside of NYC again.

The water isn't really better.
The pizza is like anywhere else, some good, some bad.

No food in NYC is worth putting up with New Yorkers.

I'm Dutch and I have visited NYC three times, Newark twice, D.C. once and Philadelphia three times as well now. ALL people there hated Californians.

The only exception was Philadelphians and New Yorkers, who hated each other the most for some reason, and then usually Californians second.
>>
>>7135494
No, New York pizza is made with the water.

New York STYLED pizza is made almost everywhere. Please read posts you are replying to, it makes you look dumb if you don't.

Dunno about the ny-philly hate. Growing up in NY we just shit on New Jersey all the time.

How did you like NYC, dutch anon?

John Oliver is pretty insufferable regardless.

NYC was really cool. Every time I go there it still blows my mind how you guys built that city. We don't have anything comparable where I'm from, in terms of lay-out and high-rise as well. It's really impressive. The people there are interesting as well, a lot of them feel incredibly rushed, until they get a chance to sit down and then they're very friendly.

The NYC-Philly thing was brought up because I stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania once and it kinda became part of a conversation.

Food was fucking amazing. I don't fully remember the names of the places I went to, aside from a place called Spinelli's (which was not the best but still really good pizza) and Hooters but we didn't go for the food.

Ruin Seattle, Oregon, Colorado, and Austin.

Move to better states but bring your shitty California attitude with you.

California is like a whole state full of New Yorkers, only instead of being cynical you're all gluten-avoiding hippies. But the same misguided sense of superiority, the same "progressive" attitudes, the same constant patter of bullshit dripping from your mouths.

Fuck California.

Holy shit this.
Californians are like Muslims. They move from California to escape it, then bring it with them and ruin the places they've escaped too.
>>
>>7135805
It's a 3D infographic represented in the two dimensional space of an infographic. The bottles where 1/2 a cup of ketchup looks smaller are actually bigger bottles just further away.

>inb4 z-axis is a meme
>>
>>7135816

yes, bigger bottles because they are further away from the viewer, despite being a uniform size

You gonna work on that GED soon, you failure?
>>
>>7135787

This is fucking terrible. Just between the "Indian Spiced" and "Bloody Mary" there are errors. Curry powder and celery salt are both 1/2 TSP but the filled in areas are different sizes. The same goes for the ketchup, both are 1/2 cup yet are different sizes. Comparing it to the Mexican, again the 1/2 cup ketchup is not the same filled in size, 2 TBLS of hot sauce are apparently smaller than 2 TSP of horseradish and tabasco.

Also liquid smoke is disgusting and EFSA found it causes cancer.

I can only assume that your special ed art classes didn't touch on perspective, or the fact that objects look smaller the further away they get from your face.
>>
>>7135813

Why are all the nozzles the same size then, anon? Why are the bottles not smaller in width either? You..Do understand perspective from your special ed art classes right?
>>
>>7135847
They were custom made bottles proportioned in such a way that when laid out at precise distances from the viewer, they would all appear identically-sized for the purposes of this infographic.

>going to Hooters for the food

top kek, no one does this.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed your stay. It's a crazy impressive city in terms of engineering and construction; the logistics to make it all happen are pretty nuts. Growing up in the shadow of it (I'm from about an hour east on LI), I guess I kind of got jaded about cities - since NYC is the biggest in the USA. You're right about everyone being too rushed...sometimes that gets a little tiring and you want to just stop them and tell them not to fucking worry so much. But hey, glad you thought people were friendly because that's consistently been the case whenever I've been in NYC (despite its reputation).

I get nostalgic every time I return back to my mother's and have to drive through NYC. Queens and Brooklyn are probably my two favorite boroughs; can't stand Manhattan. What'd you like the best?

I'd love to head over to the Netherlands some day. There's a couple other places I'd like to visit but the Netherlands has always been high on my list, and not just for the hookers.
