Dried beans/peas/similar are often used like that. It acts as a weight to keep the crust in the proper shape while it bakes.

When you precook a pie crust, the middle will rise if you don't weigh it down. You can use a lot of things. I just had lentils.
Crust looks done. Need to make meringue now.
Egg whites for meringue and a little yolk because I suck at seperation
