Redbull Cola was my all time favorite, hands down best energy but it was discontinued in the US because Americans are dumb. It had/had coca leaf in it which everyone here imagined is actual cocaine. It's still sold in the UK.
Monster tastes like shit but it has a good "wake me up" profile. Surprisingly their juices are really good though, you should try them, but personally I want my energy drinks to be carbonated. They have a ton of variety but only a handful are worth buying, and those are the xxx energy ones loaded with caffeine and everything else.
NOS is wayyy better, my personal general favorite, but stores don't always carry NOS whereas Monster is found everywhere.
Redbull Red, Blue and Silver are "meh" tier but the blue one taste alright. Caffeine is lacking. The formula just doesn't have that "pick me up". They are very gimmicky.
Redbull, the normal one I find lacking in taste and energy. To get very hyper I have to drink two small ones or the much larger one. I like the 20 oz cans and drink them entirely but I get more energetic if I drink a two monsters.
Starbucks energy drinks are very light, refreshing, but barely pack any punch and have 0 energy effect greater than a normal soda. I don't consider these actual energy drinks.
Now MIO energy is technically an energy drink and not carbonated. Although I like carbonated, MIO energy is an exception, that stuff is like candy and absolutely amazing. You can control how strong it is in taste and energy. The caffeine and energy profile in these are amazing, you can really feel it. The blue one is the BEST, the purple one second best, red one is shitty and I haven't tried the yellow one. They are hard to find sometimes. You could throw it into seltzer but normal water is better IMO. I choose this over NOS unless I'm feeling like I want carbonation.
Arizona has a 99 cent energy drink which would be my absolute favorite but finding those are like seeing a unicorn. Great taste, great energy.

Guarana, taurine, b vitamins, green coffee extract, ginseng, and caffeine blended in various blends are not gimmicky. You don't like it, fine, no is forcing you to like it. But it isn't a "snake oil" as your "sucker" comment seems to imply.
Tropical Redbull is amazing. Just got it in Aus and I could drink it all day. Blueberry is next followed by regular. How people drink the Zero crap is beyond me.

I've probably only had energy drinks twice this year but V is always my best friend.
You've never had a good energy drink until you've had Beaver Buzz. Blue is the best, they used to make a black one, it tasted phenomenal. Red is also pretty good, still way better than anything from the competition.

I've found this drink called Tornado at a local overstock store, from what I can tell it's from Switzerland.Tastes refreshing, like lemon-lime and a hint of mint, without being sweet or heavy, or having that chemical taste that almost all other energy drinks do.

It puzzles me how in one of the country's of origin for Red Bull, it's quiet different, both in flavor and perception.
In Thailand, it's considered a drink for the lower working class and comes in small, un-carbonated bottles. They have a special, carbonated version but it's not a big seller. It's also relatively inexpensive, about $0.33 per bottle.
