In this thread post food that only seems to be in your town, but never really spread out.

Is it worth it?

Ill start, I live in Rochester and garbage plates are big here. Of course they are the bomb.

Personally, I get mine with tendies, but the mac salad is really what makes it anyway.

Pie and Mash in East London.

Traditionally a working class meal. Pie made with beef mince and mashed potatoes with a liquor sauce made from parsley on top like gravy.

Malt or Chilli vinegar is often served with the dish according to the taste of the eater.

Great comfort food!

This, Rochester dawgs. Fucking Henrietta Hots? Fairport? Tendies plate?!

Mark's ain't bad, especially when it's your only option past midnight downtown, but Dogtown is the best downtown and probably the whole city. Although I usually get a dog at Dogtown, and they close too early for a drunk late night plate.

Tahou's only claim to fame is it's the creator, I've gotten their plates a few times and they were hands down the worst I've had. I mean some aren't great but Tahou's was legit bad, the meat sauce was almost completely oil, fucking gross...

I'm from NYC and I honestly can't think of any food we have here that isn't also somewhere else. I mean, our pizza is better, but it's not like we're the only place with pizza.

Only thing that comes to mind is "disco fries", which is fries with melted mozzarella and gravy that people used to order at coffee shops (aka diners) after being out dancing.

And I guess the use of the word "appetizing" to refer to smoked fish (salmon, whitefish) places.

And fucking knishes which honestly fucking suck.

I don't know why (probably because winter sucks and spicy food makes it better), but there's a lot of cajun food spots and a couple backyard southern bbq joints here. I can get nashville hot chicken with wonderbread, collards, mac and cheese, all the fixins within a couple blocks of my apartment.

Obviously lobster rolls are a thing here, but they're a thing a lot of places.

Elver eels are a culinary product fairly specific to Maine, but I understand it is mostly an export market.

The only thing I can think of that really fits into this local-only is fiddleheads (pic related). I've never seen them anywhere else.

tastes really good but it's like 5 dollars a fucking patty unless you catch the yourself

like on the side of the road during the season there will be tonnes of cars selling them that they've caught and tonnes of people go 'whitebaiting' and fight eachother for spots to set the nets

this reminds me this one time I was really drunk and me and my friend tied a pillowcase to a stick and caught some them cooked them with a bic lighter and ate them even though the river was kind of poisoned and dead hookers get dumped in there, but we lived right next to it in this halfway house also we were high on meth at the time

pic related, california burrito from SD. its sort of like a california roll or a california burger -- it includes avocado (did you know california grow's 2/3 of america's avocados?)

the only reason your california burrito doesn't have guac is because you're at a shit tier mexican restaurant that doesn't stock avocados.

I like avocado and guacamole. I really do. But this insistence that the inclusion of either automatically makes whatever its added to better still confuses me.

A good hamburger doesnt need avocado slices. A good burrito doesnt need guacamole. Some have it, others dont.

California burritos are pretty meh desu. Rice and beans work better than fries for this application. Stuff a burrito with fries and they just get soggy.
