First time going to AX in 2017. A couple of questions. I bought a regular 4 day pass, how fucked am I in terms of getting into a decent panel? How soon do hotel blocks open?

as long as you dont have any plans before whatever panel you want to go to, you should be fine.
and by that i mean, youre basically gonna have to line up at least 2-3 hours before your panel starts. of course this depends on the panel. if its some world premiere/ announcement kinda panel, then expect that 2-3 hour wait.

Had fun again this year. Parts of my gundam were falling apart by the end of day 3, but for the most part I enjoyed wearing it.
The anisong concerts were great and FLOW was hype. I think they were the best part of my weekend.

I feel like the people who did pretty good at AX just as an observer were the people offering a good variety of things, like clothing, pins, necklaces, prints especially the new hotness like Overwatch
Also the ones at the ends of the lines I saw be able to handle bigger crowds, and benefit from minicrowds forming around them garnering more interest, as people could observe without being pushed out by the crowd.
While the tables in the middle literally gave you a few seconds to see shit before the crowd pushed you forward.

Went for my first time this year. What did you guys do all day? I wasn't interested in more than 3-4 panels and the exhibit hall is awesome the first day or two. But I also wanted to go to some of the later stuff, and maybe a party or something. Getting there at 10am and then trying to stay till midnight in that heat is exhausting, plus no seats anywhere and stupid expensive drinks/food.

i've been to 5-6 cgl meetups over the last 3 years. the meme-iest meetup was at otakon a year ago, and it was still fun when everyone got to a bar. there will be awkward people, but they will lose out on conversation and eventually get filtered out as the night goes on and the group starts going to bars/rooms/dances/parties.
The threads always look like the meets are full of autists -- and there usually are a few -- but you will have fun. Most of the people posting shit about the meets don't actually go.
