I'm planning a trip to Japan, and I was wondering how often (if ever) foreigners are street snapped for print or online publications. The only ones I've seen were of minor/ e-celebrities which makes me think it doesn't happen very often.

Oh, that definitely makes sense. I've heard they find shop girls getting off shift.
some magazines announce when and where they will be, then you can get your picture taken and you may or not make it to the magazine
when I was in tokyo last year, some guy asked if he could take my picture. I thought it was for something pervy so I said no, but could it have been a street snap? It was in akiba. I look like a jap btw.

I was snapped for a super small snap blog when I went to Japan years back. Don't think it exists anymore. But it can definitely happen. Also capsulebunny and her crew were snapped for some magazine once. strawberryskies has also been in kera I think it was? Yukapon has also been snapped haha. If you're well known or dress even more crazily than most Japanese girls you might get snapped.
Mine was a random encounter, I'm not sure how you'd get onto big publications.
