What do YOU use on your wigs if not a paddle brush. I have been using one for years and my wigs look fine as fuck. A normal brush can create static and round brushes get tangles. A normal comb doesn't work that well either since it takes longer to brush through. A paddle brush does a great job of detangling and Ive never had static issues. If I am cutting a wig I will use other tools like a regular comb, but otherwise I have my trusting paddle. I guess I just have good quality wigs.

Regular rectangular ones with plastic bristles are a cheap alternative if you REALLY wan't afford the round or rectangular ones with metal bristles. Coding isn't new, and it's actually pretty useful for examining stereotypes and their presence in media.
Using garnet as an example, despite being an alien and thus not having a "race", she still carries a lot of traits that we associate with blackness. On one hand there's the physical traits; she's got the afro hair, the big lips, and a skin distinctly darker than the other gems. All things pretty much inherent to being black. She's also voiced in a way we culturally associate with blackness, even if it's not something that's really in any way indicative of whether someone is black or not. One and one these traits aren't coding, really, but when a creator specifically picks multiple traits heavily associated with a certain group it's pretty hard to see it as just being incidental. Garnet isn't BLACK, because she's an alien, but there's clearly some intent to either have her read or represent as black anyhow.
You can also look at how a lot of Disney villain guys are vain, narcissistic and foppish in a way that's most commonly associated with gay men. Scar from the Lion King is even more explicit as he's specifically "the weird uncle", still a bachelor well into adulthood. Neither Scar nor Radcliffe or Rattigan are GAY per say, but there's definitely subtext about being "weird" there, and what we might culturally associate with "weird".
With that said, that should hardly carry over into cosplay, and I'm happy to see most of the people I follow speak out against this bullshit. Just stay away from blackface and it's fine.

I think the thing with coding is that it was/is a legitimate concept but has been taken and used incorrectly/stupidly by tumblr types and the legitimacy has been reduced (like what happened with privilege). It just turns into an argument winner for them even in cases where there isn't actual evidence, because they just blurt it out without listening to actual arguments presented to them.

I'm thinking one of the reasons coding as a concept has suffered so bad is that there really is nothing about it that is all bad or good, and it's also very difficult to APPLY bad or good onto it. In some cases (see: disney villains are either gay men or sexually liberated women) it'ssomething we can say "this is probably not great", but in most it's far more ambiguous. Especially if we're talking representation. Is Korra being coded as bisexual better or worse than Dumbledore being explicitly gay (but only in word of god)? Not self post or vendetta, just an anon who found it while lurking. I noticed all of the wrong details and figured this was the appropriate place to post. (needs to wear a wig, should've used different fabric, the bow isn't even the right color, etc. )
But that was at first glance. I don't think it looks as bad anymore since it could be a lot worse (compared to my first cosplays). A cute face definitely doesn't make up for the shitty costume, but her inexperience and lack of materials (making the best with what she has) gives it a pass.
