I wish classic brands would make cute solid salos. I feel like there's a lot of room there but the only salopettes we get are the ugly ones IW throws in the lucky packs.

Same. I also wish there were longer salos. It would be interesting to at least see some designs. I don't mind sweet, but I prefer classic and my legs aren't thin enough to wear short salos

The other 3 salos are just the ouji type salopettes, the polka dot one is the only jsk variety. Looking through the salopette tag reminds me that AP does a couple slightly more classic/toned-down solid pieces that could be styled more classically like the Letter Regimental set.

Not lolita, so this might sound super ignorant, but what's the difference between salopettes and jsks? I mean from what i can tell these seem to be shorter and the waistline dropped a bit, but that cant be what defines them?

Most salopette bodices aren't form fitting (see pic related) and although some of them do feature prints they're considered a lot more casual compared to JSKs.

Depends on the cut, your body shape and height, and other things. Generally i draw the line between a JSK and a salopette ar the size of the arm opening. Usually no, but lolita brands release them anyways (for the same reason they release mini skirts; for casual wear)

What would a gothic salopette even look like? There's something so cutely and childlike about them that I can't imagine them ever being truly gothic. At best I can see a relatively streamlined one with a spoopy print.

Maybe it's just me, but salos always felt like "comfy" wear for lolitas. Like, more relaxed than a skirt+top outfit but nice enough to still fit into a generally kawaii aesthetic. Like they're something to go in a lolita's wardrobe that says "I like to be cute but I'm not always going to go out of my way to wear a full lolita outfit." So not technically lolita aesthetic but geared towards a lolita's personal daily aesthetic.

Oooh, that is super cute! I wish I could provide input. I haven't worn anything from MAM in years. Definitely better than Bodyline though. I'd say a cut above most Taobao brands.
