Anyone going? I'm pretty excited - I heard there's going to be some kind of monkey show this time.
I'll be there both days! Lowkey anxious because I'm doing a group with some other people in a cosplay I've worn before but deeply need to fix up, and work is eating up all my time/energy.
>give me the power oh merciful /cgl/
I'm going, it's always a fun con and the con heads really care about it too. The carrier last time was so awesome
Con's over; thoughts?
>Fun and laid-back as always
>Michaela Dietz killin it; definitely a high point of the convention
>The last con I attended was 50k+ people, though, so it was a little jarring to finish walking the floor and be like "...oh. that's the end of it"
Anyone see the monkey show?
Someone is salty about not winning anything. She was acting like no one could compare to her

Try to lose with some grace at least. If your familiar with the con then you're probably familiar with her.

>Anyone see the monkey show?
Yeah I thought it was really entertaining, cool that they even had animals to touch if people wanted.
you know you're hard up for cash when not winning $500 sinks you completely

>Dalek - 1st place
>Tauriel - 2nd place
>Steampunk GoT - 3rd place
And I forgot who the novice cosplayers were wearing but their costumes were really well done for it being their first sewing project.

She's competed before and won 3rd place with her Merida in the past. I thinks she's won some other prizes in the past.
A lot of ribbons were handed out too but I don't think she got one this time

It's Irregular at Magic High School. At first glance I though they might have bought but the fact the emblem on the arm seems appliqued instead of printed like bought would be.
Too bad about Tauriel's bow but her sewing and leather looks spot on.

Seriously. How much of an ego/poor planning do you have to have, to screw yourself over if you don't win the cash prize?

Oh wow, now I see it. I was really impressed with the kids, I think they had just started high school, I didn't really ask. The costumes totally looked bought but there were some parts where you could tell it was sewn by them. The girl said she spent a lot of time on them.
Talked to the tauriel and she was really embarrassed about the bow, she really didn't want it in pictures and asked me if she could just hold her daggers instead when I asked for a photo. She said it was a placeholder until she could finish her real one she just didn't want people complaining about the fact she didn't have the bow.

Clearly it's the con's fault because she couldn't read the rules that have it in big bold text that reference images are required. Damn you cosplay judges that follow the rules as posted!

I have met this girl at local events before and she acts like she is the best at everything.

This. Even if you have an original design you need to show at least where your influences and ideas were coming from rather than just kinda making it as you go along. Nothing wrong with that but against someone else with an original design who brought refs you'll lose out

Really. How hard is it. An original design based on Ivy? Bring a picture of Ivy. Pull it up on your phone. Come on now.
