What distinctions separate aristocrat/gothic lolita/western goth? Does it matter? Any newbie tips for assembling a wardrobe? Makeup suggestions?

unholy mother of fuck, checked
>>8966666
checked and bumping because interested on wardrobe tips too.
About the makeup, in my opinion it looks really well with shironuri,.but it can work pretty well with something like this too.
Boz never disappointing.

posting coords with a pop of non-black. i usually just buy black things. need diversity.
small steps
>>8969005
would it kill me to buy a white blouse?
>>8969010
or even just a jabot
a non-black jabot
my blacks don't match anyway, might as well toss something on to distract from the green- versus blue-undertoned blackness
>>8969012
or maybe both. a nonblack blouse AND jabot. and maybe a floofy hair accessory.
>>8969013
or a fan. i can put it down if the color gets to be too much.
>>8969013
Ohman. More like this silhouette? It's so clean and feminine. Is the vest this one from Boz or ...?
I've seen similar from Sheglit and Boz, but that shape is really lovely.
>>8969016
but in all honesty, i do not even wear colorful makeup, just shades of monochrome and greyish brown. i have no range. i just like black things. i tell my wardrobe items apart by feeling rather than looking at them.
>>8969018
i will see what i have when i come around again. i have an embarrassingly large collection of coord shots.
>>8969030
That'd be awesome. Most of the stuff I have saved is either old, or borderline western goth in style.
>>8966666
I think the largest difference is in range of colours. Aristocrat can go for showy colours and fabrics as long as they're balanced by the rest of the outfit, but mostly sticks to a range of subdued colours (not necessarily black). I feel that both gothic lolita and western goth are more restricted in their palettes somehow.
>>8969035
i think a lot of mine are the same. i fon't think i have more much like that silhouette so i will just dump a mix of shit, sorry if it is all the usual

This is just gorgeous in its simplicity. I saw this reblogged on a couple of sites, and immediately saved it into my inspiration folder.

The IW Romilda dress pictured here is a perfect example of well done aristo-able lolita pieces / aristo-lolita hybrid style that IW can be used for. I have this dress and it's gorgeous.

I for one welcome our gothic overlord
Aristocrat can get very heavy/ warm to wear at times. Does anyone have a preference for what to do in warmer weather? Do you ride out the heat and wear it anyway, or do you prefer to opt for lighter weight skirts (if you wear femme aristo), with minimal petticoats? Or do you prefer to go for a hybrid lolita look, like with the shorter summer dresses that Boz puts out? Do you go for homme aristo?
>>8973677
>It's actually classed as a jsk.
Interesting, and good to know for future shopping. Thanks.
>>8977045
You're welcome. I'm currently hunting for a very similar one also from Boz, and that's put into the jsk category, even though really they are more overdresses/vests.
>>8976971
i'm always impressed when people can bear with the heat. personally i like to wear more white and ivory. linen is my favorite fabric for that time of year, it looks classic but it's cool and weightless.
in my eyes it comes off as homme aristo with feminine touches but my fiancee's little brother told me i looked like a pirate, which is fair and probably closer to the truth
dear western homme aristos,
why you no dress like this?
>>8981069
Do you mean in head to toe Moitie, or in the casualish goth aristo? I have to say that I much prefer seeing Mana in homme aristo these days. He just doesn't look as good as he used to in a dress.
Are there any particular Western brands, designer or otherwise, that people like for footwear, bags, or accessories when putting together aristo coords? I've been browsing the Alexander McQueen website again, and thinking how some of the current season's bags and jewellery, all chains and ornate cross medallions, would look amazing with aristocrat outfits.
>>8986053
>casualish
the opposite of casual! i mean the opulent, unique, creative stuff. Western homme aristos usually look like any other Neovictorian type, or even "ouji lite." they don't take risks.
i will say female homme aristos are usually more creative and gothic, even when they are in a casual or simple outfit like pic related. i don't know how to explain it... it just feels like most Western hommes miss the mark.
>Are there any particular Western brands, designer or otherwise, that people like for footwear, bags, or accessories when putting together aristo coords?
Alchemy Gothic, The Gothic Shoe Co. (on etsy, they do pikes and such).
>>8986191
and then there's this guy who looks great and i love his aristo style but even at his dressiest it's just a bit too Neovictorian and not enough Gothic Aristocrat for what i see in Japanese aristo-type people. i don't think he should change or that he isn't good enough, i just don't know why western aristos play it so clean and safe instead of dark and dangerous.
>>8986192
i think it comes down to edginess, for lack of a better word. i encourage all aristos ITT to play on the edge with the fashion. the scene is struggling, so make a statement!
>pic related, Japanese goths in brands aristos like, with 50% more edge factor

>Alexander McQueen bags and accessories
Maybe post some of them, anon? I like seeing people use designer items in j-fash.
adding Abilletage to the list of brands i would like to someday purchase from

That's gorgeous.

These are all Alexander McQueen. First up charms open tote bag.
>>8986775
Legend bag
>>8986775
Large Legend tote (this one is stunning in person, and also comes with brass hardwear and/or in reptile skin textured leather).
>>8986775
Another bag. Similar to this and the charms bag is the Heroine open tote.
>>8986775
Chain harness jewellery thing.
>>8986775
An amazing military frock coat. Only thing I dislike about it are ther 3/4 length sleeves. Otherwise I would definitely use this in an aristocrat coord. Heck, I might do anyway. That is, if I could afford the two grand plus price tag.
>>8986775
The Alexander McQueen classic skull scarves especially are great additions to an aristo outfit. I have a few of them, as they're fairly affordable. One is a black and bright blue silk blend, which works beautifully alongside Moitie's iconic blue lining on coats and gilets, etc.
There, that's my Alexander McQueen photo dump done.
In all honesty I only found out about Lolita through 2003/4 Victorigoth despite earlier exposure to animu meido. Aristo has a really distinct sillhouette and drapery though. I feel like it's very clean cut, long lines, and almost businesslike with a lot of contrast between detailed textures and matte black. Not many pop culture references for an alt fashion either
>>8986807
To me Aristo has a bit of a fusion of Victoriana goth, 18th century fashions, and visual kei. I sadly all too often have seen people leaning too much to more or less straight up wearing Victoriana or 18th century style and labelling it Aristocrat. Not that it looks bad or anything but I agree that Aristo has its own distinct feel to it.
>>8986220
i like you. i do think that people play it safe so as to avoid mockery from voices within the community; but why even bother if the seriousness factor outweighs personal enjoyment. anyways taking your advice to heart
>>8986220
>>8988475
Same here. I'd love to see more experimentation within the fashion. It's fun to do, seeing what works and what doesn't work so well. This goes for both sides imo, femme et homme aristocrat. The reason why I described the outfit Mana's wearing in the picture in >>8981069 as being a bit more 'casual' is that it doesn't look like formal mourning-esque wear, and has a bit more of a visual kei edge to it, in my eyes, which isn't a bad thing. VK influences my own style a lot I admit.
Quick question for Mille Noirs fans. How true to size are their corset skirts (in paricular, and in general for everything), compare to the listed measurements on the website? Does anyone have any worn photos of the long corset skirts?
Page ten. That won't do. Bump.
doop doo random pic to raise the thread
far left: aristocrat or tea-length lolita?
>>9001010
The middle is tea-length. Marie's straight up ankle and that's not lolita.
random pretty bump
>>9001010
The middle outfit really feels off to me. Not a fan. Right hand one is a bit 'meh'. There's also something I can't put my finger on that I'm not keen on either about the far-left outfit. It might be the way that the fabrics are layered. Other peoples' thoughts on this?
New Akira shot for Atelier Boz.

>has "elegant gothic style" explicitly written on the ad
>also something about "sharp silhouette line" maybe?
nice, thanks for sharing. i know EGA is not used in Japan the way it is in the West, but this would make a good ad to use in a slide explaining EGA.
>>9008304
You're welcome. While personally I use Aristocrat to refer to the style in general, with EGA specifically referring to Moitie's Aristocrat line, I agree with what you're saying completely. It's an elegant and dramatic style, but fairly fuss-free, with a much cleaner silhouette to it. It's not overloaded with a million bows or accessories, etc. It's the aesthetic that I tend to keep to myself when putting an Aristo outfit together, and I treat Lolita outfits the same way, just they have a higher hemline.
The pieces she's wearing look like the Valentine corset skirt, and the Sirius blouse, with the addition of a corsage on the blouse from what I can tell. Both items are however sold out. The corset skirt is a re-release with a new name, possibly with very minor tweaks, of a staple corset skirt they release, and a new blouse design. I wouldn't be surprised, due to its popularity, if the Sirius blouse joins the staple line-up of regularly rereleased blouses, such as the Mistress and Andrew blouses.
Here's a thought that struck me while watching an Akira video just now. OTT Aristocrat, if you pile on more accesories and opt for bigger hair etc, is essentially becomes a form of visual kei. YES / NO?
>>9008648
>YES / NO?
not necessarily

Left-most outfit: I like the shoes, the skirt and the sleeves, the top confuses me - is that a velvet corsage on top of the blouse? Also the - peplum? looks odd. All in all, I'd like it better if the top part looked more fitted.
fuck almost off the board

no but Reverse Image Search might since the photo's filename looks to be taken from a direct source
