Thing I keep noticing in these type threads is that there is usually something unexpected or less conventionally 'matchy matchy' in the outfit. I think if some of these were documented as a 'coord help' type post for instance, people would probably suggest that they change something, or go for something more obviously fitting.
I generally think it's the outfits that have a little something out of the norm but remain interesting and cohesive over all that are the ones that seem to really stick in people's minds.
There are some exceptions of course, I think pic related is understated (in lolita terms) perfection.

I think also it's harder to see how stuff will work in real life from collages - things can look fantastic collaged but because of half of it being obscured or clashing with hair colour or basically being worn, it looks awkward. I remember one thread someone was trying to decide between a black and a white blouse - on paper I think white looked more balanced, on the person the black was far better (or vice versa)
