Natural Kei Fashion

I didn't see a thread for this (I'm really sorry if I somehow missed it) so I decided to start one!
>>
I used to check Pink House's website every season to look at their catalogues, but stopped a couple years ago and sort of forgot about checking back. I recently went to their website to check their catalogues again and was extremely disappointed to see they no longer have their older ones, and the farthest they go back is 2013. I was really inspired by their catalogues. I tried pulling them up on the wayback but didn't have any luck. Does anyone have a clue where I might be able to fold those old catalogue pictures? I've been searching the internet for ages and haven't gotten anywhere.

I know Natural kei is probably the least popular fashion (even in Japan it's mostly worn by older women) and that this is a slow board, So I'm sure >>8873524 is probably a lost cause, but I'm really hoping someone will end up being able to help dig up some of the old catalogues. I really regret not saving them.

I love a lot of Re-Ri's coords. Some of them are pretty frumpy and outdated but they charm me.

>>8873976 This is super cute! Old fashioned without being frumpy at all.

Is it true that Natural-Kei is the predecessor of Lolita? It makes a lot of sense looking at it, but also I've heard that some of the brands made natural-kei pieces before Lolita came into its own.

Yes, Pink House was one of the main leaders in kawaii fashion back in the day. Like, I even have an unrelated doujinshi from the 80s where there's just randomly a Pink House coord, just like how you'd see with lolita today. You can pretty much draw a direct line between that style of cute and lolita.

A lot of kawaii influences went into developing into what lolita is today. It's pretty fascinating. You might find this good:

Thank you so much for contributing and posting so many great photos! I got the first couple of pictures you posted to come up on the Wayback, but I couldn't find anything more. I was really hoping to be able to find things through 2006-2009 because I remember being really inspired by a few of them. I'm a bit surprised nobody has a picture collection saved somewhere on the net. I'll keep trying to dig around for stuff.

>>8874662
The history of this stuff has always interested me too! I find the evolution of Lolita to be fascinating, and I adore many of the older looks. I remember reading a translated discussion between a few Japanese lolitas, back in the old school days, who all seemed to agree Pink House was considered a Lolita-type brand at the time, even though at that point natural kei and Lolita were quite distinct from each other.

>I thought 'Natural Kei' died in the 90's. If I hadn't discovered lolita first I'd have been all over this fashion.

I have loved Anne of Green Gables & Maple Town since I was a preteen. So natural kei makes my heart flutter. I remember when I was around 11 I asked my mom to make me a pinafore like Patty Rabbit. She questioned my judgement and being only 11 I forgot about it and just moved on to other things. But I've always secretly wondered if she didn't make one cause she thought it would make me look like a house slave.

I'm still scrounging around for some of those old PH photos. No luck yet (if I manage to find some I'll post them!) but I've found several blogs featuring some cute natural kei cords and a lot of them are older women. Seeing older women wearing cute fashion honestly makes me feel so happy, I guess because it's not something I see very often.

>>8875342
>>8874595
I'm not sure what influenced my love of an old fashioned aesthetic, probably a mix of my love for fairy tales and growing up my parents and I lived with my grandparents. Both natural kei and Lolita feel like they were made for me. I like them both equally, but I feel like natural kei is easier to wear. Lolita can be really exhausting. So lately I've been focusing more on natural kei.
>>
OP here again. I'm giving up my search for PH pics. I found a couple photos so I'm dumping them, because that was a lot of work. Hopefully others can enjoy my efforts!

That is definitely mori.It can be easy to get mori girl and natural kei mixed up sometimes, and sometimes I've seen mori or natural outfits that sort cross over and could be one or the other.

A good rule of thumb is that mori looks modern, natural looks outdated.

Pic related is from a mori magazine, but the girl on the right boarders on being natural. If it wasn't for the sleeves on her outfit being very modern (they roll up and can be buttoned In place) I would have said it was more natural than mori.

maybe its just where i lived but the pinafores/prairie girl thing was pretty in for small girls and my grandma made me a few sets. lots of gingham or calico dresses with pinafores and the ankle length pantalettes. hell i took one of the longer petticoats and put new elastic in it for a lolita underskirt because its four yards around the hem.

>the girl on the right

you said, and proceeded to describe the girl on the left. I chuckled.

however I came on this thread expecting mori, but it turned out way better than that. Didn't now this style yet, I hope this quality thread doesn't sage any time soon.

Oh man I didn't notice that! Ha ha I swear I know my left from my right.

Glad you discovered it! I love mori, but natural kei really pulls at my heart. It gives me all sorts of warm fuzzy nostalgic feelings.

One thing that has been confusing me is that in Japan I see tons of thing I would have called mori girl, being referred to as natural kei. Perhaps natural kei has modernized and looks much more like mori girl these days? Or perhaps they are less concerned about labeling styles than we are in the west and refer to anything with a country feeling as "natural kei."

Natural kei is more modern and takes on a more mature look compared to mori.
The photo you posted or the one I've included is what natural kei in Japan looks like.

Natural has been around for a long time in Japan, and since mori had a very similar look, natural brands welcomed mori girls and caused a merger of the styles somewhat.

Blog post from Japan about Natural kei

Pink house is a cute brand, but it truly was the beginnings of lolita, not natural kei.
This is were the confusion comes in.

I think there are two definitions/ different movements of natural kei. The 70s-80s little house on the prairie pink house historical etc. Style and then this is seperate. It just happens to have the same name/ japanese refer to this as natural style, but that doesn't mean the pink house style isn't a thing/ natural-kei.

This makes more sense to me than AYRT. The country/prairie/old-fashioned look that dominates this thread is definitely considered natural kei based on everything I've known since I got into Lolita/J-fash 8 years ago, and I suppose even the more airy and modern outfits have a slight prairie/country look to them. I've seen the more prairie looking outfits referred to as a "country" style/theme before, and Pink House releases both the prairie looking stuff and some lighter and simple pieces too, so perhaps it's a bit like how Lolita has substyle. I suppose nobody really knows for sure, so I try not to obsess about labels too much. Interesting to think about though.

Not sure if this question is more appropriate for here or the otome thread, but what would the brand Lois Crayon be appropriate for? I've always been curious about the brand and it's apparent following, but not sure what it'd be used in. Is it what you'd call otome-kei or natural-kei?

I think there's a bit of a crossover, just like how Jane Marple makes/ used to make quite a bit of natural kei styled items.
