Can we have a listing pic vs actual product thread? Stuff from China is always a huge chance and we buy enough as a board.

iirc this lady bought a bunch of chinese shit because it was super cheap without even looking at a size chart, she just assumed that the sizing in china was the same. she then wrote a long blog post complaining about how everything she bought fit her pre-teen daughter better than it fit her.
i can't really have sympathy for someone that can't take a couple seconds to look at a size chart.

I agree with this, but YesStyle's stuff is cheap as hell and not as fitted as the product pictures would have you believe. (But that's a given considering how cheap it is and how everything on there is ripped from some Taobao/Ali/etc. store.)

The infographic is dumb as hell for saying it's "suited to an asian frame." It's on the same level as people here who go on and on about Asian and Western frames being ~so different~. The clothes are just cheap. That's why they look like shit irl.

I sort of assumed they were talking about the others, like >>8816980 and >>8816984 which looks too small for the buyer.

As for these:

>>8816972 looks like the dress is too big for the buyer, so it's hard to tell if the dress has the right silhoutte or not, since it's sticking out shapelessly.

>>8816977 mostly looks like there's not enough fabric to drape properly (the waist should really be looser in order to get the right drape once the waist string is pulled in), so it might be too small, especially if that drawstring is already pulled in as far as it can go.

I've wondered from the beginning why >>8816966 doesn't just pull down her dress. There's such a thick fold of fabric above her boobs, the pockets may be at her hips if she pulled it down. Unless she bought a dress that's too small and can't pull it down, like other anons suggested.

But most of these can benefit from more photos and some context. If most of these were made-to-measure then they're certainly not the buyer's fault for wrong sizing.
>>
>>8817534
sorry I laughed at this one
>>
>>8817517
Cups are sewn on upside down, there's a massive gap in the straps between the breasts and the gap between the cups and band is super long.

No, she doesn't have the world's greatest figure, but bra cups that are a mile apart and upside down won't do anything good for you even if you're a supermodel.

Lesson learned: not going to buy cheap shirts from Ali again.

Best one was when a particularly dim cousin got a pair of sunglasses instead of a shirt because she didn't read the listing (she was going through a seller's listings, not searching by keyword) and thought that the one picture of a girl in a cute top and sunglasses meant more than the various pictures of sunglasses, the word 'sunglasses' translated into various languages, or the butchered disclaimer that they didn't offer protection from the sun so please don't blame your blindness on them.

For all the "ohhh be careful when buying from taobao you're going to get cheap shit!" I've heard, I've only actually gotten a few things that were truly bad and didn't match the picture shown. Most of the things that didn't work for me matched the image just fine, but I got the sizing off. As I've bought more from taobao, my sizing errors have diminished greatly. IMO taobao is one of the better places to buy from since they have legit reviews. The Chinese customer images are a godsend.

Most of the stuff in this thread seems to come from eBay, milanoo, or Ali. Anyone have some really bad taobao disasters?

This is one that I found from a Chinese customer. There are more images here: http://elitedaily.com/humor/see-through-dress-disaster-taobao/963209/

I seriously agree. I know not to buy things that won't suit my body type, always read reviews and check measurements, and 90% of the time I've gotten cute well-fitting stuff that is well made and long lasting. The only times I don't bother with reviews is when I want to try something super cheap that I know I can give away or alter, and the only nasty surprises I've had with clothing were when I had just started buying stuff from China and was too stupid to look at reviews. I know it's different to buying from Next or something but seriously, looking at how reliable someone is when you're giving them money is common sense, really.

Those boobs are obviously photoshopped though, you're not going to get that level of pushed together perkiness with zero support, plus you can see the difference in the curve of her breast where you can see it in the middle and where you see it in the clothes. I do think people could wear it and look good (similar styles seem to be popular with celebrities right now), but that model definitely is shooped.
>>
>>8818558
There are people who can wear this, they're just not the average person.

I've only received one bad item from an ali or taobao order. Most of it was fine and looked like the picture, but the collar was off center. I'm kind of tempted to put a nice pin on it to try and make it look deliberate.

Basically just explained to her the reason my items tend to come out like the picture is I buy from sellers that have been recommended to me and/or have pretty spotless customer reviews. Also price to picture man.

No way in hell the product image for >>8816989 (which was pretty similar to what my friend tried to order) was going to sell reasonably for 15 dollars.

>>
>>8818745
>No way in hell the product image for >>8816989 # (which was pretty similar to what my friend tried to order) was going to sell reasonably for 15 dollars.

This is the kicker. Once you've ordered from taobao or Ali for long enough then you get a sense of what quality items should sell for. While of course it's still less than what the item would sell for in the West, there is an acceptable margin for decent quality. If something is wildly cheaper than the other already cheap listings, then something is wrong.
>>

Not saying bad products don't come from China, there are shady sellers who don't sell products that match as advertised, etc., but if you do your research, check reviews and recommendations, you should be okay for the most part. Of course sometimes it can be bad luck or other mishaps but if you go in paying $5 for a dress on a weird, foreign website with 40 day shipping, what the fuck do you honestly think you'll get?

Tbh all of the stuff in this thread is absolute garbage.

I know it's a board where a lot of people buy from taobao, aliexpress, etc for cheap, cute clothes. I understand why people come to the defense. However this is also a board where people should be able to tell quality due to lolita or tailoring/seamstressing from cosplay.

It surprises me that people are defending these items by insinuating the buyers must be fat, or shame on them for looking at the picture being advertised and thinking they would get anything close (can't you at least admit this is a little fucked that we as buyers have to think this way?). The quality issues of the items and garments themselves go far beyond their fit and accuracy, it's the construction and materials. Even if you were a Chinese size and didn't mind that the piece you got isn't exact to the webshop's picture, you should still be pretty annoyed at the cheap material and shoddy construction of most of these itt.

This just looks like the buyer doesn't know their measurements. If you iron out the lace it would probably be about the same as the photo. Obviously the people wearing the item have very different body types and measurements. >>8816980

Most of these disasters are clearly because the buyers couldn't be bothered to read the measurements. They most likely wouldn't have looked at the shop rating either, which is one of the best ways of telling if you're paying for a decent product or a bin bag with holes. The materials and construction are shit, yes, but that's the buyer's fault more often than not. Ali has reviews and pictures of the items and people can scroll down to look at them, as you should be doing before buying a fucking wedding dress or something, and you'd be able to see that the item is shoddy and not worth the money. Even if it's in a language you don't understand you can google translate the review and get a general idea of what it says.
China is notorious for ripping off products. If Shop A sells a generic but nice top, Shop B might steal their pics to advertise their own similar product, and so on. They're all the same item, but the quality will vary immensely. That's why there are ratings and reviews. It's sad that we can't look at a picture and know that the product will look like it, but there are ways to tell if the picture is likely to match the product and if people used them then this thread wouldn't be here.
TL;DR if you want Dior quality you don't go to Primark. Use some common sense when buying online, dammit.
>>

the left one looks like fine craft jewelry at first glance, but the picture is way too small to indentify it as real craft jewelry of course.

I have quite some experience with goldsmithing and of course, there are other ways of attaching stones without fitting like glueing them..

My Chinese family members told me never to buy from taobao since it's all shit (because of that one time they ordered shoes that fell apart in two days) and they were literally shocked when I told them my new clothes were from taobao. I can't even read Chinese, what's their excuse?

I didn't see it! Would've saved a bit of pain. Thanks anyway.

I'm always tempted to buy those ridiculously cheap wedding dresses that say they are made to measure for like £15 to see what they end up like

I bought one of those black zipper dresses, and they sent it to me with the zipper sewn the wrong way onto it. I asked for money back and first they said hows "20% of the original cost ($5)"

What >>8818355 said. I bought my prom dress online but it was in a store that's in my country, has free returns and sells dresses that were made by legit brands. Of course that's going to be more expensive than ebay or aliexpress, but if you want a decent quality (not previously used) prom dress you should be prepared to spend a bit more anyway.
