I've told everyone I know for a long time that Japense pop culture will be embraced by mainstream and even avant-garde fashion.

How can we turn this into a way where cosplayers benefit and not just the game / anime companies?
>>
Make more porn so normies reject it
>>
This isn't new at all, and just because LV is doing yet another collab doesn't mean it's becoming "accepted" by mainstream fashion.
LV first did a collab with Murakami (arguably more niche pop culture) like 13 years ago and continued to do so until earlier this year. Because one or two brands' Japanese branch's do this sort of thing every so often does not mean it's becoming widely "accepted."
Also why the fuck should cosplayers benefit when you haven't done anything for this? Go be an original creator and then profit.

>Go be an original creator and then profit.
That's such a ridiculous thing to tell someone. It's like telling someone to go be a pop star.

I don't think there's any space for j fash in mainstream culture unfortunately. I live in a city that is really accepting of various fashions, for instance, no one bats an eye at the OTT goth kids that roam the streets here.
But every job I've had, people are always super weirded out by cosplay and any kind of j-fashion.

Totally not new. Victoria's Secret runway a few years ago
>>
Chanel Cruise 2016 was kpop inspired.
But anon, dressing up like a cartoon character is not going to benefit you unless you go on reality TV or something

>Murakami
>niche
nigga he is like Baby's first J-Fashion, he's hyper mainstream, he is on the NYtimes on a non trivial basis, he makes the big papers, he's like the "fuck we need someone from J fashion, call him" boring.
>>
>>8791393
Still more niche than Final Fantasy. Even people who aren't into Japan or anything know about FF and have for decades.
>>
>>8790424
That was a knockoff, not acknowledging the source material.

This is the ACTUAL Lightning.

I take it you're not old enough to remember the early 2000s? The LV monogram collaboration was what actually made him mainstream. He got a little bit of recognition before that from the art world and Japan interest types, but not nearly on the level he is now.

>This isn't new at all

This. Araki, for example, has several collaborations.

also

> benefits cosplayers

as in... become more accepted as a hobby? Because if you are looking to monetize this, you are shit.
>>
>>8791780
>if you're looking to monetize this you are shit.

>this

this, meaning media corporations' intellectual property

meaning widespread use and misuse of other people's intellectual property for personal gratification

You think cosplay is some special area that people shouldn't make money from? You're an idiot. If I was a cosplayer, I'd rather cosplay FOR Square and make money then do it on my own and lose money. I know a girl who has a screen-perfect Lightning face. She should be doing this instead of fucking CGI.

>If I was a cosplayer, I'd rather cosplay FOR Square and make money then do it on my own and lose money

see, this is what people hate. You cosplay because you like a character/outfit/winning prizes, not because of 'money'.

Also yeah, you friend with no modeling experience and who would have to be flown to another country and paid should do it, totally.

Araki also had that Rohan Kishibe Meets Gucci comic which was also a collab between them and he also collaborated with Spur to announce the JJBAxGucci collab.

>>8790328
I can't see cosplayers benefitting from this. Like 99% of cosplayers don't have any real high fashion modeling experience, and most cosplayers are too poor to buy the actual LV or Gucci clothes to wear to a con or for a shoot anyways.

>The LV monogram collaboration was what actually made him mainstream.

Oh my God kill yourself.
This board is a fucking joke.
>>
>>8791872
To this day, it kills me that Gucci has a collab with Araki but not fucking Anna Sui, of all things.

> Ann Sui does a manga bag series
> misses the chance to include Anasui in it

The collection was inspired by hanbok and korean traditional clothing.
