So I often see clickbait lists that purport to contain the best places to live with low costs of living. Except... they're all in Texas or the South, and often with a small (sundown) town feel. Which is a problem, because I'm black. So where would be a good place to live with a low cost of living for a black person?

I feel like most Southerners who say stuff like this have never actually lived up North. The only two times I've been refused service were in North Carolina and Maryland (the hoity toity part of Baltimore, at a Ruth's Chris). And I've only ever gotten pulled over in rural areas, north and south, of which the South has many more that you have to travel through to get anywhere.
I'm trying to avoid that kind of shit.

North Metro Atlanta here, desu whitewashed blacks get by really well around here. Lots of checked privilege and property value is on the rise. Warm weather, spend less on heavy parkas/heating/winter damage. The only issue is that anything north of Cumming, GA and south of Macon, GA gets pretty redneck. I'm white and they even make me uncomfortable.
However, qt southern belles all around.
I hear south Dakota has low cost of living.
Come to Denton if you don't mind hipsters. Cost of living isnt much, best college town in america, bars are cheap, like there are dollar double nights. Only less than an hour away from Dallas and fort Worth both, fantastic job market, you get used to a half hour commute to nice places as they're everywhere. No race or orientation issues. We're city folk here, travel an hour west Into nowhere and it's a completely different view of texas and it's people.

Also, tornadoes seem to go around denton alot, anything that touches us is nothing. Inland enough to not care about tropical storms. hour drive from winstar, giant Indian casino that's mostly slots. Denton has music and film festivals, mostly a music town when it comes to art though. Lots of jazz, small punk scene.
