The shares weren't worth 200 million when he got them. In the grand scheme of things it was probably a stupid choice on his part to take shares instead of cash. It'd be like someone giving you a free pull on a slot machine instead of paying you for a day's work. So basically he got lucky the same way most people get lucky... by being lucky.
