I have an idea of a business is like to create, based on helping aspiring writers to develop, market, and publish their work. I myself want to be a writer. Whenever I was in school, I was thinking if my time could be better spent reading literature or writing.

I studied English for 3.5 years, and business for my last semester. Because I switched majors, I don't have a degree. I don't know when I would be done. I'm not sure if I want to go back. My job would only be a way to live while I write and develop my business. I don't care if I have a degree or not. I just want to write and have my business succeed eventually. I'd be fine working as a salesman or in a trade business.

My family is very upset with me. I'm not sure if going back would be a wise use of time or money. Will I learn something I need? Or should I continue practicing my writing? I don't know yet. I only want to succeed by my own definition, not theirs. They may be confusing their view of success with my own. To them trade school is like a slap in the face. They almost take me not having a degree as an insult. I don't know what is best for me anymore.

Finish the English degree, learn business stuff on your own. Forget about the business degree, undergrad business is shit anyway and you don't want to spend more time on undergrad.

Is this just to appease them, or is there a benefit? I stopped studying English because I didn't believe it was useful to spend so much money on these classes. I can study literature and write on my own. How will the degree help me?

That's why I had the idea for a business. I recognize that anything not tailored to the lowest common denominator may not see much success, even if it's my dream to write it.
