Are vacation days negotiable the way salary is?

I'd rather have lower pay and more time off, than higher pay with less time off. Instead of negotiating for a raise has anybody had success negotiating for more vacation time? Or will that just make me seem lazy?

Better to ask for more money and just come up with emergencies if you're out of vacation days. You won't be paid that day, but whatever. If it's salary they shouldn't give a shit at all.

I have a friend that had an entire month of extra paid vacation put in her contract for when she decided to get married.

This wasn't a clinic admin for the hospital though and she was very much in demand.

you don't need to worry about getting enough vacation time, if you use the bonus days
-everyone takes off the last 2 weeks of the year - no need to waste vacation days on that.
-if your boss is out of town a lot, or when he's on vacation, you should be able to skip work.

i once reported to a guy that worked out of an office on that was 6000 miles away - i would come in for a call in the morning, check email, and leave around 10:30.

my boss would have a weeklong trip to visit my office once or twice a year, and he'd be so exhausted from travel, that he'd usually miss our face-to-face meeting.
