Economic collapse? Maybe not. A massive drop in the markets? Likely. Most economists say the global economy has slowed, equity prices have been rising and rising which should correlate to some degree. The moment corporate profits currently built on growing amounts of consumer debt drop you will have a massive correction in equity prices. You can't have a system built on almost zero rates for fixed investments (the money the people in retirement use for spending) and debt (the money people not in retirement use for spending) and expect this to just continue and continue indefinitely. It's a system set up to create massive bubbles and bursts.
