I want to start a pawnshop. There is choice realty in a downtown spot that I can sell and buy jewelry out of. About 50 square feet. My mother who collects disability would help the buying and selling.

1. Are pawnshops profitable?
2. Can I ever expand beyond one store in a pocket office?
3. What kind of seed investment do you think is "safe"?
4. Is it possible to move from "Pawnshop" to "Jewelry Store"?
5. Any advice in general?
You'd only be limited to what people are going to pawn at your store. Which will most likely be cheap stolen shit. You'll be worrying about taxes, rent , fees licenses permits, etc. and even then Most pawn shops these days break out of the store and start flipping shit on eBay.

4. Absolutely not, once you begin to develop good relationships most of your money will come from buying gold and silver from crackheads and old women. You'll be a middle man between crack heads and full blown gold dealers and melters.
5. Work on being as friendly as possible given the situation. If you help people out they will tell their friends. Good Relationships = More Customers -------> More money.
